He SAYS he got cut off, slammed on the brakes and sput out. He actually ended up in the opposing lane when he got hit twice, everyone ended up fine. I somehow dont think he was going 70 though, to spin out while braking and end up crossing the median into the other lane...

I can see that happening, if by "cut off" he means, "I was going 100+ and someone going a sane speed changed lanes in front of me."

It looks like he owes you a deductible.

Did you remind him that with antilocks and VSA if he still had all four on the pavement when he went for the brakes he shouldn't have lost it??? .. now if he was hit first, or in the grass and turned hard .. that's a different story.

On the plus side, it looks like you had plenty of winshield washer fluid.

I appreciate all your input and that is part of the reason I posted this. I also just couldnt imagine him losing it like that just slamming the brakes going 70... Like you said Brewmaster, with ABS and VSA he definitely shouldnt have lost it. And he didnt get hit at all in his travelling lane, he got hit only after he crossed the median.

DAMN! I think it's safe to say he was probably going faster than 70. Plus I find myself driving 75-85 on average with the flow of traffic on the highway. Car is faster than it seems.

I've had to do a quick stop at 70 mph and unless he was driving in bad conditions (and shouldn't have going at that speed anyway), there is little possibility that he lost control.

I think that your brother was just being a tool and trying to push the TL.

It's amazing how hard it is for people to learn... if you wanna be cool in a car, the trick is to not try. Anything else makes you look like a tool.

Now THAT was cold. Funny, but cold.

ninjafish158, sorry about the TL. It's amazing that your brother didn't get hurt (yet).

Regards,

Glad nobody got hurt bad. Lesson learned? Next time he walks or sits in passenger seat. It's only a car and you brother is more important but don't think I'd let him drive mine anymore.

Gee...hope they don't try to fix it but don't be surprised. Let us know.

Got it in August, only 2100 miles. Makes it that much worse, the insurance settlement is going to hurt, will probably get no less than 6-7k the price of another one and I think thats some wishful thinking.

First, bring your brother to a chiropractor
Second, contact an accident lawyer
Third, don't let your brother drive

My friend was hit from the back and he said he feel fine, but when he went to chiropracter, some x-rays show that he needs some treatment... My point is, you might not feel it at all until you get to your retirement age... BTW, I'm not a member of chiropractor association or anything like that...

Glad to hear no one was hurt. Your brother was doing way over 70 miles an hour. Maybe he actually got it down to 70 by the time he hit someone. On my way to Santa Barbara once, I had had to stand on my breaks on at about 60 miles an hour with four people in the car. The car in no way lost control, it came to a quick stop very controlled. If I had to hazard a guess is he was weaving in an out of traffic and swerved to avoid someone... The important thing he is OK, but once a doctor clears him, I would sock him in his mouth... I'm angry for you... Not only does he owe you a deductable, he owes you any gap (if you don't have any gap insurance) between the price of a new car and the amount the insurance gives you.

if ypu look at the pic of the trunk hanging off you can see the PA plates. its just that the sun glare is cancelling out the actual plate number but the top and bottom are visible.

Actually, I'm guessing he Photoshopped the license plate number out of the picture to maintain some anonymity. Otherwise, that's a pretty precisely-rectangular bit of glare.

damn, the insurance is gonna to hella go up for this one. and i don't think anyone on this thread should jump out and say "oh , no way he's going 70. blah blah blah. " unless you are an accident forensics expert, please hold you judgement. you weren't, you didn't see what happened. why are people on this board always prejudging people and jumping to conclusions.

Feel free to use pics crazymjb. As for gochans comment, I am really not offended by anyone making any judgments, part of the reason why I posted this like I said before was to see what people have to say. Everyone from the accident ended up okay, however my brother suffered a mild concussion so he doesnt remember exactly what happened, so we are trying to piece things together. And from what I just found out recently the police investigators said it seemed to be a very high speed accident. They studied the marks in the grass median and the skid marks and said the vehicle could have been travelling in excess of 85mph, so some of the estimates of 90-100 probably could be true. He is my younger brother so he lacks experience and was probably trying to show off with his friends and this was the unfortunate result.

Maybe he was going 70mph, when he went across the median the other two cars that hit him were going +100. I don't know just a theory....
Anyways glad he is ok, and sorry about the TL loss...

although i am not an accident forensics expert, i have been in, seen and studied many accidents... there is no way he was doing 70... he was being yound and stupied i have been there myself... i have lost my 280zx on the street. i took a long sweeper and back out the gas hard in midturn.... the car swaped ends and that was that.... i was lucky i didnt hit anything but the median.... i drove away with a bent tie rod, and strut and a bruised ego.....

the tl renowned for its safety, just doesnt lose control... i have taken a fast turn in it, and as soon as the car stated to slip the computer pulled it right back in... he had the vsa OFF, i can almost gaureente it.... the cars computer can tell you all of that and more.... the airbag sensors keep track of everything.... speed, wheel angle, car position, system info.... acura might be able to pull the codes.... chk with them....

My goodness. There has been too many TL accidents lately. But I am glad as always that everyone lived to talk about it. Please take it easy on the road guys. We don't want to lose any members or anyone in their families due to negligence. Drive safely.
