My Review Amsoil MTF vs GM Synchromesh FM
When I bought my 06 6spd it had 36K the first thing I did was switch out the oil and transmission fluid. I usually use Amsoil oil so after reading it seemed like the consensus was the Amsoil transmission fluid was similar to the GM stuff so I decided to just go with Amsoil. What a mistake fast forward 6K my 3rd gear is somewhat notchy and shifting in general seems worse actually. Went to the local GM dealer and picked up the GM friction modified stuff last week and swapped out the Amsoil. Initial impression was its different but not the WOW I expected but a few miles later like 50-100 I am amazed at how smooth the car is shifting its unbelievable actually much much better then the Amsoil ever was. SO make the right choice the GM stuff is amazing!

If you really used Amsoil ATF, then you were using it in the wrong application. It's designed for use in automatics, hence the name, ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Did you use the universal ATF (wrong one) or the manual synchromesh trans fluid (correct one)?
Just so the verbage is clear for those who might be reading this.

Good to know so others won't make this mistake. We were just "guessing" which one was better in the other thread.

How long ago?? Before I drained the OEM for Amsoil MTF I didn't have much of any notchy 3rd gear symptoms, but they started to develop some time over the 6K I had the Amsoil inside. I'm sure the Amsoil MTF is good fluid but it doesn't feel like it has the same amount of friction modifiers as the GM stuff.

Very interesting. I've always been using the GM stuff but read numerous reports of how the Amsoil was supposed to be the exact same thing. Your experience seems to indicate it's not. Anyway, the GM is a few bucks more but I've stuck with it since it's been great. No need to try another brand.

No. Don't use the GMSM in an AT. A lot of AT folks like Amsoil. Read this thread for more info and how to do a 3 x 3 fluid change:
