My OIL Dipstick is slight above the top line?
I recently got my oil changed at acura of manhattan and after a few weeks checked the dipstick and apparantly it seems that they have put more oil than the 4.5 reccomended capacity stated in the tl manual. What is it with these morons? Do they have any idea what they are doing? Is this harmful to my car?? Should something go wrong,i am covered?
Thank you all.
Thank you all.

never stops!
It might be of concern, if you observe it to rise. CHeck again after a week and see if it have risen. Check this link for some tips. Read Lesson No. 3;

As said, not to worry. There is a built in fudge factor to allow for ignorant dealers, careless lube changers, do-it-yourselfers, etc. Dealers usually have their bulk oil nozzles set for 5 quarts, unless it is some car that takes a lot less and then they might adjust it temporarily.

I agree with Ron - look at the oil dipstick after you have run the car hard - unless you see lots of bubbles, you are not whipping air. Mfrs over underrate the sump capacity to allow for such "field realities".

Technically, as long as you are between the low and high lines on the dipstick, you should be safe.
But the TL invites you to drive in a spirited manner, and when you are flinging it around the curves, that .5 quart of oil that isn't there may mean that something didn't get lubricated, or whatever.
I notice you didn't ask if it would hurt anything, like the original writer asked if being over the line would hurt anything, so I gather your intent is to keep only 4 quarts in the oil pan.
Why would you want to do so?

Why stop at 4 when 3.5 is just beyond around the corner.

ive never in 160,500 miles put less than 5qt of oil in my tl (i buy the oil in 5qt jugs and poor it all in). (its rated for 4.6 or something like that) so you should be able to make it to 160+k just like me!

well the reason i asked should've been....because most of the 5w-20 oil comes either in 4qt's or 1 quart bottles. The guys at Pep Boyz is only going to put in 4 quarts and not waste a half of 1 quart bottle.
Just wanted to know if some part of the engine is going to be hurt with only 4 quarts. thats all.. let me just back away and take a breath

You should tell them it takes 4 1/2 quarts, so put in 4 1/2 quarts and give you the remaining 1/2 quart so you can use it for adding, if necessary, or for the next oil change.
