My new mod (one off)
Please do not contact me about purchasing this, which includes posting in this thread and/or PMing me about how much it costs, that you want to buy it, etc... I do not want this thread closed.
At this time this isn't for sale. Like I said, not trying to be rude, but I want this thread to stay open and not deleted for people to see my design and work and to get feedback.
Been working on a project for a custom shift knob with an OEM fit. Finally got one ran.
The knob is smaller in diameter than the drawing due to an issue I had with my tool probe on my lathe. But i got that fixed and started turning down another one. (Will be about .200" thicker at the top). Will resemble this:
I was originally going to overlay the Acura logo, but that would cause me trouble with copyright/licensing.
The next shifter style I plan on doing is the one from the R8:
Comments?

Thanks guy!
New one will look like the top of this but be smooth all the way down and not stepped, and will be polished to match the brushed look as the first one.

Hmn neat.
I like it... but [personally] I'm not too fond of the cone-shape.
What TL do you have? If it's a Type-S... do you plan on painting the letters/numbers red [like the Skunk2 knob]?

Very strong. Good luck with your mod.
Now if you can make a billet shifter for the TSX Auto (1st gen) you will improve my driving experience. Love the car, hate the leather covered shifter.

Yes I am considering powder coating the engraved part for the Acura models that are Type S and Type R. Basically you pour powder coat into the engraved part, wipe off the excess on the face of the knob, bake it and pull it out.
Will look something like this:

20 hours. includes design, redesigning to have the bottom clips, camming my CAD files out(creating machine code to run an operation), creating work holding fixtures, manually writing out a few programs, fixing a lot of little bugs, and running a couple trial parts.
Yes sir. Solidworks is very powerful! Haas uses them pretty exclusively for the design and analysis of their machines (Haas is a CNC manufacturer, USA made based in Cali). I'm a firm believer in Haas and Solidworks.

I would love to design one. Please private message me or email me at Chris@NetExposure.US. I live in NC too in the Greensboro area. I would like to get ahold of one so I can measure it for the design.

The most I will do as far as making it pretty is powder coat the lettering black and red.
I have been working intensely on an Audi R8 style shifter for a friend with a VW GTI.
Check it out:
Audi R8 style with VW logo
My workstation didn't like making that one. I've got dual core 2.8 Xeons with hyperthreading, and 4 gigs of ram. Im not saying my pc is the bomb but I haven't had it bog down like it did when designing that. The part of the knob with the "teeth" is called a knurl, and is calculated on a helix. I found out that it is pretty CPU intensive!
What do you guys think?
