My new EL42 tires are in... Now I need help!!
I just got a call from my Acura Dealer informing me my new redesigned Bridgestone EL42 tires were in. I ask the dealer if I could upgrade them to the Michelin Pilot A/S and pay the up charge. They said no. They will let me take the new tires and trade them in at a tire store. The best (and only) deal I have found is I trade the EL42 for Michelin Pilot A/S and is costs me $78 a tire.
I have three question I would like input on. Is it worth spending $333 including tax for the Pilot A/S tires? What kind of tire life am I going to get on the Pilots? 30K miles? Also since I am doing this should have change the size of the tire to a 245-45-17 or 255-40-17 so the wheel in not as exposed to curb rash with a wider tire?
Thanks for the input!!

Yes, that's definitely worth doing, even if the new EL42 tires are "fixed." The Michelins are just a much better all around tire.
I can't speak for mileage in terms of miles, but treadwear ratings indictate Michelin will last about 50% longer: Their rating is 400 vs. 260 for the Bridgestone.

Definitely go for it! They are giving you $100+/tire. I've been calling shops left and right and the best I got (only one out of half a dozen) was $10/tire. I wish I was in your situation.
If you're concerned about price, check out the Pirelli P Zero Nero. They're about a third less than the Pilots and had the best consumer rating on tirerack.com. I'm trying to swap out for those. Good luck!

Perhaps, you should just do it.
If I have chance to get four NEW EL42s once again, I'll definitely trade for some better tires.
I said "if"... I'm not sure whether my stupid dealer is going to do so for my 04TL...

Tire Kingdom is the store that is going to do the trade. I just got back from that store and I checked on the Pirelli P Zero Nero. The total for those would cost me $150 for all 4 tires. Less thatn half the price of the Michelin's. I may go that route.
My Acura Dealer told me I could come and pick up the 4 new EL42's, take them and trade them, come back to the dealer and they would put them on. I even offered to give them my credit card number just incase I bolted with the tires. I think that is what eased their minds and agreed for me taking the tires.

Humm. I just did the math and it seems they are giving you less credit for the Pirelli swap than they did with the Michelin swap. Pirellis retail for about $130/tire while the Michelins are at $190/tire. According to my calculations, you lost about $100. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They are not giving me much of a deal on the new tires, Pirelli or Michelins. Here are the prices they quoted me.
Pirelli P Zero Nero MS $194.99
Michelin Pilot AS $235.99
I don't have much room to negotiate because they are giving me $157.42 for the new Bridgestone El42

I checked out the Tire Kingdom website and they have different prices for the Michelin Pilot A/S at different locations. Some are 233.99 each, others are 186.99? Locations all in 40 mile radius.
My local store is actually Merchant Tire, same company though I think. Just thought I would point this out, a pretty good difference in price, maybe save someone some dollars!
.... By the way, anyone have the Pirelli P Zero's for a while now can tell us how they perform after few thousand miles or so, do they flat-spot, any louder than the EL42's (which are fairly quiet)
That seems to be one advantage with Pirelli's over the Pilots is the noise is less, right?

What about the #1 rated tire by Consumer Reports, the Falken Ziex 512's. They're about ½ the price of the Michelins were also rated quietier.
They also have 3 magic words on the sidewall: Made In Japan
