My last TL???
I decided that it was time to trade in my wife's 04 TL. She's a nurse and drives from the hospital to home and the car is mint with about 40K, pearl white and non navi, new michelins. I was going to the same dealer that I have been doing business with for 20+ years and realized the 2010's would be a lot more expensive.
Here's the deal from my favorite salesman, my car and $28,000 difference to trade for a 2010 white navi. No flex in the deal. I think that would be giving me 15-16K for her car and paying near retail for the new one. I want the car but not that damn bad.
I have an 04 and an 07 both have clear titles and it's a shame that for whatever reason I can't see any way that having a new TL is worth that much difference.
I changed cabin filters in both cars tonight and will keep all necessary maintenance current and hope these two cars will last a long time.
Maybe the dealseship is having hard times and they are trying to squeeze every dime they can get. There was nobody else at the dealership buying cars the day I was there. I've averaged buying a new car there ever 3.5 years for the past 20 years. Not anymore.

Nice, a two TL family. If there's nothing wrong with your current TL's then why trade them in. Plus I like the styling of the 3G's much better than the 4G's. Just keep them up and they will last a good loooooooooong time.

Save your money, there's only 40k on the '04? No major services due for a while... Even if you follow the severe maintenance schedule it will be another three or so years before she hits 60k anyways.
You just put new tires on the car, enjoy it and get your money's worth. Use 'em both in good health.

I'd shop another dealer. Apparently your loyalty is not important enough to them. I'm sure there are others who would be very happy to have your business.

I also agree with the guys. Keep the 3G-it's a MUCH better looking car. They're not giving you enough for your 3G, so keep it. Really, it's got relatively low mileage on it for an '04. Your sales guy will call you back....just watch!

Acura's goal: Hit 200,000 againU.S. Sales Market Share2005 209,610 1.23%2006 201,223 1.22%2007 180,104 1.11%2008 144,504 1.09%2009 105,723 1.01%Source: Automotive News Data Center Thats the reason why they are not dealing. 50 percent sales decline from 2005! They better fire their design team and refresh the TL.

After Acura came up with the 4G configuration, it became clear that they had some serious problems in the design dept. out of California.
Our 3G's resale value will become one of the highest in history, and Acura will resist it every step of the way.
Hang on a little longer, as Acura's sales will continue to decline, you will get premium dollar for your 3G. If not from Acura dealerships, but from public sale.

Agree with the others on keeping the '04, but if you really want a new car consider selling your car yourself instead of trading. You'll save on both ends of the deal; you will likely get several thousand more for your current car and have better negotiating power on the new purchase.

^ from what the OP mentioned he keeps a car about 3.5 years. If he bought this one new for his wife he's had it nearly double the time he states he normally keeps a car. With only 40k on it though I'd run it forever.
OP: what does your wife have to say? Does she want a new car or is she happy in her '04?

Personally, I would keep the 04 TL especially with that mileage. But if you're looking to get a new Acura, I would look into the new TSX. They are bigger and much more aggressive looking than the previous years. The 4g Tl's are not so attractive IMHO. But that's just me. Also another option is doing the non-navi to navi conversion and it'll be like having a new car. Just some options. Good luck with your decision.

Not having enough sense to take all of this good advice given on this forum, I butted heads with the Acura sales team in Tallahassee again today.
Before starting negotiations, I cruised the lot and tried to find the right color with the options but the colors that I liked didn't have navi etc but more importantly, I took a long close look at the 4th Gen TL. After trying as hard as I could a determination was made. I can't live with the 2010's design. The fricking thing is just plain ugly. My wife was with me and she didn't want me to trade HER car for a the 2010.
I talked to the salesman and he came armed with all the pricing guides, blue books, Edmunds and according to the books my pristine 2004 non-navi car is worth as follows (cut and pasted from the salesman's email).
"clean shape trade $11,548 private party sale $13,037 retail $14,473
I do appreciate your business/ friendship. Let me know if there is anything I can do." Yr.
I was offended by the offer and buying a new TL is no longer a issue. I'll keep my 2 3rd gen TL's until the doors fall off.
One afterthought, why do all the car trade books show such a low price for the TL? I would have thought that premium Honda/Acura brand would hold it's price better. I guess the game is rigged against the customer.

Jazz, the salesman is clearly being a salesman. Trying to maximize revenue for his company on both ends. On the trade in and on your purchase price for the new car. Yes the Blue Book is listed quite low for our cars. But you will see that they will easily sell for much much more. At 40,000 miles it will go for more than that. Plus I'm sure it still runs like new? My 76k TL is just stupendously in new condition for its mileage. The soft smooth drone of the engine is all there. I just love my car and think that even within the 3G Acura TL used car market, it has to be one of the best. You don't need it, & save your money, put it into something else. If you want a refresher look for your car, can always go for the Aspec kit found very low through the hook up on this website.

After reading your first post, I was going to say that's actually a great trade in if they give you $15-16k for it. Their offer later is more in line with what I'd expect from a stealership.
