My Idiot Move

So I take the car in to get detailed today, knowing full well that shit always happens to me when i get someone else to do stuff, but after winnipegs precipitation filled winter my carpets, and carpet floor mats were soaked and hadnt dried out in probably 4 months(i didnt know this til today). So I take it in the a place called Chamois in the city. I have a couple buddies who took their cars there and said they did a decent job. I didnt care about washing the car or the interior the only thing i wanted done well was the carpet shampoo. I pull up 2 hours later to my car sitting outside and before I even get out of my roommates car i notice this big scratch down the side of my rear aspec skirt. NOT HAPPY! Actually livid might be a better term, but it didnt fit properly and they were already replacing it on warranty come spring anyways so i wasnt overly concerned just pissed at the lack of respect. I decided to give the car a quick walk around and on the front quarter panel it looked like there was a rock in their "state of the art washing system" and it spun all the way down the front quarter panel scratching the car every 2 inches or so. So i go inside and the detail guy greets me with a smile, i dont even say hi, "do u have a manager here" lol, the guy just puts his head down and walks to get his manager. So the manager is some long haired early 20's punk that thinks he's gods gift to the world for being the manager of a fuckin car wash. I show him the scratch on the back aspec bumber and he says there is no way that was caused by the machines. "We use state of the art equipment and theres no way. i can guarantee you of that" We talk about it for 2 minutes me just getting fired up inside about his attitude, the fact he couldnt even consider that it may have been caused by his guys. So i take him to the front which is OBVIOUSLY caused by their spinny fucking machine and show him. "Nope there is no way! No way that was us. That was their when it came in." All the scratches are the same height in a line 2 inches apart. I mean you couldnt define what damage one of those spinning brushes would do any better and he fuckin denies it! So again we argue this and he wont budge. So i get on him that i just paid 70 bucks to shampoo the car(i know it was cheap but that was just the shampoo, and basic wash) and the thing is a mess on the outside. So you guys ran it through scratched the fuck out of it and its not even clean? he says "well i can run it through for you again?" RU Fucking kidding me i say, you just scratched it the first time, u want me to leave it in your hands again? So then i point of that behind the side mirrors the water that sits in the cracks of the mirror(anyone who has washed their tl and then without waiting for it to dry drove it knows what i mean) had all splattered out straight behind the mirror all down the car for about 2 feet. So i asked him how he can explain that. He said its probably from the guys driving it out when it was wet. I know where the water came from fucktard i want you to explain how it sprayed out 2 feet behind the mirror without dripping down the car. I aint a physicist but i am gonna go out on a limb and say that wasnt from driving it non chalently from the door to the parking lot! Anyways the guy walks away. Now even though i am mad now, i never raised my voice or swore at him or disprespected him in anyways although this post makes it seem that way, thats just rage now. You can take out fuck from up top and its almost a direct quote, lol. But for the record all the fucks that follow, they were said. I just wanted an answer, and he fucking walks away from me. I get in my car drive home furious, and as i pull into the drive my cell rings. Guess who it is........Chamois's customer service, we'd like to know how satisfied you were with our service today! I said r u kidding me? She says no, lol, I said well i am fucking pissed(poor girl got all my frusturation but she was really good about it) I said i have scratches all down the side of my fucking car from your guy's machines, i said my car isnt clean, and i said your manager treated me like shit. I said if i wanted to be treated like shit i sure the fuck wouldnt have expected to come to your guy's shop and pay you 70 fucking dollars of my hard earned money to do it! I said is there someone on top of the manager i can talk to. So anyways the owner is supposed to be calling me back in the next couple of days. I dont expect anything, maybe an apology, and i knew better too. all i wanted was the shampoo but the way they have everything set up its hard to get out of the wash deal, and i shoulda just stood up for myself and told them no shampoo only. Oh and this isnt to mention i forgot to tell them not to clean my windows that are tinted and only supposed to be cleaned with warm water not chemicals which they did! So stand by for adventure on that topic too. Again stupidity on my part. The thing that made me so mad was when the guy is sitting there telling me "well stuff like this happens all the time in everyday driving. it might have happened and you didnt notice it" My response, "Not possible" When i wash that car i go over every inch of it, i know every nick or scrath thats on that car(only cuz there are so few cuz its new but still) And i had just washed it the day before and there is no way i missed that fucking gash when i went over the car washing it and then noticed it from across the parking lot pulling up. My whole day ruined. Started out so good, getting the rugs cleaned, which they needed, and that turned out good but then this fucking mess. Sorry for the long rant! and the over the top language but i had to get that outta my system. You can all start telling me what an idiot i am for taking it there in the first place.

I feel your pain. I thought as a NBP owner you'd realize that car washes and black cars don't mix.

1.Rage = No Paragraphs

Ummmm... why did you even go there in the first place?!?
Like i said, to get the carpets shampoo'd, which they needed it bad!

But I did know better than that which i think is why i am so upset.

Not so much that they scratched it,

more that i knew it was

going to

happen.

Nuff Paragraphs now

PS i know it was long, i guess you'd have to know me to find it funny. I have so many stories like this stupid little things and it doesnt matter how much planning i do, or questions i ask people, stupid shit just happens to me.

So you ONLY took it for a carpet shampoo? And not a car wash? And they still gave you one?

i feel ya.. trust me i do...i gave my car to Walker Acura for services and also my CV shaft was making screeching noise...the service guy called me told me about the problem and he told me that they give me a free car wash...when i heard that i started laughing and told him no thanks...but he was persistent so i gave in.. when i got my car back...the only thing clean on it was the wheels.. everything else was dirty... but no scratches =)

Lesson - - - - - dont trust anyone washing ur car besides yourself hahahah

I have learned a long time ago unless you do a walk around with the shop manager its near impossible to prove they did it .. nor will they admit to it ..

It doesn't matter if its for tires , oil change or anything I get the service manager out and I show him .. no dents .. no scratches .. no cerb rash ... no hand prints on the interior and I show them the mods I have done in case an item goes missing.

I have yet to have one complain because it also works in thier favour .. you can't accuse then of doing something that was already there. If one did refuse I'd just thank him and go elsewhere.

They have insurance! Make them pay for it! I remember parking in a parking lot in Cambridge with my fiance's Maxima and when I came out, there was a fat dent on the fender. When I told the attendent, all she said was "I don't know, that will be $20."
I was furious and demanded to speak to a manager or owner. She got him on the phone in literally 2 seconds. I told him what happened and he said he'd take care of it and waived the parking fee.
The next day, an apraiser took a look at the car and sent my fiance a check for $500.

Don't give up! Persistance will pay off!
Good luck bro.

I dont ever let anyone do anything to my cars.
I have even removed my rims and taken them to the tire place to avoid
them screwing with my car.

Acuazine should create a venting forum so that one can do that cathartic thing, and leave their anger there. I know sometimes I could use it.

Quite the long post though, not sure it would go in to "ramblings", the name is demeaning and would take away from the power of the rant IMHO.

Thats how I am. My first dealer experience at 16 wasn't good, so I learned to do everything myself quickly from washes to timing belts. Nothing compares to a hand wash & dry anyway.

Like i had said i hadnt been there but a couple buddies said it was alright. The way it was set up was u pull up to the building and some girl comes out and u tell her what cleaning package you want. I told her just the carpet shampoo. She said okay checks the box and circles bronze package(apparently with any one of a specialized cleaning such as carpet shampoo u get their bronze package as well).

The bronze package is the most basic package you can buy. Pretty much they run it through the wash and while its going two monkeys jump inside and give everything a quick wipe down.

Anyways you pull around the corner into a garage door and there you get out of your door and some guy goes to get in to load it onto the track to run it through(again i didnt know about this track dealy or i definetly wouldnt have gone) So i try to explain to him what i want done with the carpets, and that some where inside and some where in the trunk but they needed done to. Its soooo loud in there and he had ear plugs on so he shakes his head like he understands me but with that look that you know he has no idea wtf you just said.

Anyways i walk inside and I see through the window this track contraption and the spinning brushes and think to myself....fuck. But too late now and really how bad could it be i mean they are still in business. AFter the track it goes to a clear area of the garage and the two monkeys get out of the car and start wiping it down. From there they pull it to the shampoo bay. Now if i woulda known i could do just shampoo i would have, but the problem was i pulled into that first door not really knowing what to expect on the other side, and after the hard time explaining to the guy about the mats i just sort of gave up. My fault really i shoulda been more persistent.

Anyways the owner is supposed to call in the next couple days. We'll see what he has to say about it all. Like i said earlier i dont really expect anything anyways, more of an apology and admitting to the fact that they could have done it instead of not even allowing the thought that it may have been caused by them.

Sorry for the long post again.

I feel for you Tuff. If your Avator is your car, it's a beauty.

Hope this isn't more than just a "lesson learned" episode, and you get some satisfaction out of the business' owner.

Good Luck!

I feel for you and not that this will help in your situation now but I plan to shampoo my carpets using the $30 carpet shampooing machine you can rent at Home Depot. For another $5 you can get the upholstery tool and it will work perfectly for car floor mats.

Crap! I didnt even think you could run these A-spec rims though an autowash conveyor system without messing the wheels up? I have been going to this touchless drivethough lazer wash thing that has no tracks...but only does a so so job to begin with...but better then nothing in crappy weather....

I think you're doing the right thing. I would not run any car with low profile tires through a track car wash system (I wouldn't bring my car to a car wash period, but that's me) unless you are looking for wheel rash.

<I have a heated garage, and I installed a faucet in my garage this fall so my hose doesn't freeze. This way I can wash my car in my driveway all winter long. Yes my neighbors think I'm nuts when I'm out washing my car in the driveway and it's in the teens. If not I'd be at the laser deal, or maybe even the self-wash>

Ditto....sorry about the mess but it's a lesson we all have to learn, if I can't do it myself then I have have to deal with having a dirty car because I say ".........a dirty car is better than a clean scratched car....".......

i cant believe how calm you are about this
if i were u, i would call the place up and get the owners number from them and talk to him and get him to pay for the damages and nothing less
i would have also refused to pay the $70 for the shampooing

It pains me to read this (no paragraph + sad story).

This is the reason why I do all the cleaning myself. And when I get lazy, I rather the car be dirty instead of taking to machine car wash or someone else's hand.

Then recently, I was a bit over joy when the Chervon gas station that I usually go to, open a true touchless car wash (no track) and it does a pretty damn good job of cleaning my baby.

ANOTHER WINNIPEG TL'r! I went to the chamois on waverly.

i would have also refused to pay the $70 for the shampooing
You pay before you see the finished product, dont think that thought didnt cross my mind.

Three words = Rubber Winter Mats (Acura's are the best)
I have the mats, hence the reason for the shampoo. I disagree that they are best. They dont hold water in, it leaked onto the carpet, and then the rubber acted like a seal and it wouldnt dry. My carpet mats and carpet under that were both soaked. Thats why i needed shampoo to begin with!

If the owner doesnt at least refund your $70, I would sue in Small Claims Court. If he doesnt want to give you any refund then tell him that you'll sue in small claims court on the phone, and he might change his mind.

I've got an idea. Tell the Korean dude what happened but lie and say the mgr was going off with these racial slurs. Maybe he'll follow the guy home and do a kick-and-run on his car!
