My first TL

Hello all! Well, if everything goes as planned I will be picking up my first TL today. I've absolutely loved these cars ever since they came out. It's an '05 black on black, completely stock but I plan on doing some simple but tasteful mods.

This looks like a great site and I'm pumped to start checking everything out!

Hope the deal goes through and you get that TL!! Congrats and welcome to AZ. Check out the 3G garage for tons of info and mods. Also, you may want to register your TL at www.myacura.com. While in there save your Navi and Radio codes for safe keeping.

Thanks! I'm sure I will get the modding bug.. haha, no doubt about that. I've already been shopping.
Just planning on window tint, new wheels, springs, taillights for now. Hopefully that will be all but I know how that goes.

One question I've been searching for but haven't exactly got the answer I was looking for yet: Will the OEM tail lights from an '07-08 TL fit my '05??? I was wanting to switch those out instead of getting aftermarket... Anyone know off hand?

I did this same mod a few months ago. I put the 07-08 base tails on my 06.

It's a done deal. It was dark when I got it last night so I don't have a pic yet. I love this car. Interior is awesome and drives extremely smooth. I bought it for a daily driver. I have an '06 350Z but needed something for the winter.

I just orderd some 2007-08 Type-S taillights. I hope you guys are right because it had this little disclaimer on the order:

"Fits 3.5L Type S Models Only" ..... keeping my fingers crossed

Maybe I should have asked around here first... but I just ordered some tailights off this website: http://www.am-autoparts.com/AM/Tail-...7/AM-34847888/

They say they are DOT and SAE approved which I'm hoping the same quality as OEM. They were only $105 shipped so they could be junk. I guess I'll find out. I hate it when they get condesation in them. uber annoying.

indeed they are aftermarket, even the site name AM means aftermarket. maybe you should check the seals or reseal the lights to prevent condensation.

this is from the actual website : http://www.am-autoparts.com/about-am.php

from the The "AM" in our name doesn't stand for Ante Meridian, or Alaskan Malamute; it is actually a short acronym for "After Market". This just means that the items that we sell are brand new parts that replace your broken OEM parts. It is just like buying generic Aspirin, we all know it's the same ingredients, so why not pay less and get a better value?

Here she is in all her glory. She is completely filthy from all the snow/salt but you get the idea. Totally stock right now but won't be for long.

I'm looking to do something with those rear sidemarkers similar to what you have done. Any recommendations?

So, the windows are getting tinted today. Wheels are supposed to be here today also. I got the new Type-S taillights in the mail last night. They look great, can't wait to install them.

I would like to switch out the rear side markers for Type - S smoked. Since the 07-08 Type S taillights are supposed to fit my 05 base TL, will the sidemarkers for an 07-08 fit also?

Excellent. Thanks, I actually found a dark tint to go over my existing side markers for $20 from lamin-x.com I think I'm gonna go that route.
Check em out: http://www.lamin-x.com/Acura-TL-04-0...rs-p/ac306.htm

If you're still looking into getting the Type-S rear sidemarkers. DEPO makes an after Market one, you can find those on ebay. The only thing I would warn you about is they don't really flow with the OEM front side marker, you can tell the DEPO ones don't exactly match how the OEM rear ones look. IDK if that is something that bothers you or not. That's the reason I went the OEM route so the front and back match each other. Just something for you to think about before buying if you decide to go all DEPO, or all OEM, or both.

Depo:

Yes, but a pair of OEM type-s REAR markers are 90 dollars.
Go DEPO and you can get all 4 matching for 60.
there is also a slight fitment issue going the DEPO route, but is easy-ably fixed by sanding down some of the plastic housing/bracket.

Yeah without a doubt they are cheaper. I'm just pointing out that there is a slight difference between the two. Just letting the new guy know before he purchases anything.

I was simply pointing out that you do get 4 side markers..front and rears going the DEPO route, so that they all match. you made it seem that you only get the rear markers.

Great info! Input is greatly appreciated. I looked at all the side markers and OEM and DEPO. I decided to go with the Lamin-X since it was the most affordable and will do the job I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to install my wheels, tailights, side covers until March since it's incredibly cold out and we got like 7 inches of snow last night. I would hate to bend one of those rims.

I should have taken this advice. When I got the car back from window tinting, I got in it this morning and the radio says "CODE"..... What a dull boring ride to work today... No ESPN radio, pure torture.

I got the code, all I had to do was call the dealer. Which made me think, how pointless is this security feature when any fool can call a dealer and they give it to them?? The car isn't even in my name yet.

I agree. However, you had to give them the VIN#, right? I guess it's better than nothing. If a thief stole your radio, they would have to write down the VIN before stealing it.

I thought I was going to have to give him the VIN. Actually the only thing I had to give them was the serial # for the radio itself. I got that by pressing 1 and 6 on the radio.

That's not good. It kind of makes having codes pointless.
