This thread sucks, I'm out.
OP - I feel sorry for your loss, but this is a rather epic c*cktease. Don't dangle an interesting story before us admist a sea of ZOMG, WHICH LEDS, A SPEC HELP NAO, WHICH CAI threads and fail to follow through with some details.
I'm leaving this thread assuming you were carrying an open bucket of stripped, slipped on a banana peel, and cooked your paint.

let's see...
$200 for a gallon of clear coat, plus about $20 worth of reducer http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/...PPG+DCU2021-GL
and lets say 2 gallons for the car (to make sure to not run out mid-job [and at least 2-3 coats], and it actually might be more or a little less too, not 100% sure), theres $440
now lets look at primer http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/...=PPG+DP40LF-GL
again need 2 gallons at least (for multiple coats), (might also need some reducer too, depending on how much is left from the clear "estimate"), that's $165 per gallon, so that's $330 for primer
so $770 so far...
plus say $100 for tape/paper (remember you are basically painting the car 3 times, primer, color, clear)
, then also lets add in all the additional paint stripper, or grinding discs needed to strip the old paint off
so as you see material costs add up real fast, and run into the $1000's (and the paint/primer/clear is a huge chunk of that; btw i can't seem to find a reliable price for the paint itself, so i did not add that in )
edit: i can look up some House of Kolor prices if you like also..., and have the material cost be even more then it is just for standard PPG paint costs

I was told that WDP by design requires 3 coats of different paints, the first being the base, the second being the pearl and the third clear if I remember correctly. In any case, you can have the shop add a little extra pearl to the paint. One member did that here and it looked amazing!

and considering that the OP joined back in 2009, with only 100 posts, i don't think he gets on "too much", so give him a little break

I don't think DeathMetal is expecting the car to be fixed by now, but rather expecting some type of update fromt the OP. I agree with him. Everyone is waiting to hear if he has any clue who might have done this, etc.

The materials as far as paint isn't the problem, it's the misc. stuff that got damaged because of that. Most of the plastics are probably ruined so that means a new tail-light and headlight which will add up to around 1k, then there's the various door trims, door handles, etc. Plus it looks like some of that stripper got between the glass on the rear so they might need to remove the rear window to rustproof and repaint that area. The Labor is killer and as well neutralizing whatever is still on the paint and other areas.

and the number of coats needed , i knew at least a color was needed, but with 3 seperate layers (which are going to need a couple of coats each more then likely), just adds even more to the material costs, then supposedly only "$250 for paint"
also i know with NBP, and adding additional pearl makes the blue in the paint pop just that much more
so really how ever you look at it, it is not going to be cheap to fix with a quality paint job, that will last the rest of the life of the car
and OP, i just thought of this also, you probably will have to pay extra though, but this be the perfect/cheapest time to do it though,
is get the paint color sanded for that show car shine/look (aka no orange peel)

look if u dont like the thread, dont comment!!...i already said i didnt know who did it or why, i already left the car at the auto shop where they gave me a price range of 9k to fix da car...but they havent told me how long!..... and im not gunna be here 24/7 commenting when i just wanted to share what happened with my car to other acura ppl.

Okay all the the paint will cost easy 1500+. When my MDX was keyed i did a full color change (just gunmetal) and paint (primer, sealer, base, clear, hardners, and reducers) cost me 2,500 alone! This is using a quality paint, not this crap you can get from your local auto parts store. If you think paint will cost you 250... you are SOOO wrong. i paid more then that for base alone!
Also the WDP is called a Tri coat and the steps to paint it include:
Base, Mid coat (pearl), and then clear. If you wanted to set your TL off you could add more pearl or change the color of the mid coat pearl to blue like the lexus.

also i think most people are with me, in that you made it seem like it HAD just happened, and not was actually almost done being fixed (so i guess adding the extra pearl was out of the question already then...)

Please take pics! I'm sure we're all anxious to see how your repair turned out! If you don't mind me asking, what did it end up running you and what paint/materials were used? I hope it comes back new and improved!

Wow, that repair didnt take long at all... but like said i am sure you just didnt put this out here until later. Lets see some pics! Did you just go with OEM color or change it up a little?

i know with enterprise, sometimes you can actually drop the car off at the bodyshop, and they will pick it up there (but you have to make prior arrangements though). so all you have to do is just go to the bodyshop itself
