My baby got punched in the mouth by a Mustang.
Hey guy's, just want to vent a little. I never though this would happen to me specially since im always careful as to where I park my car.
Yesterday night I was parked in my car making a phone call when all of the sudden, i see something black out the corner of my eye coming towards me. When i turned around to see what it was, it was too late. All i heard was a lound BANG!
I get out of my car too see who the idiot is that backed into me, and to my surprise.... THERE'S WAS NO DRIVER, WTF! I look inside and it's a manual ford mustang with the e-brake in the down possition left in neutral. The Mustang was on a slight angle and it drifted backwards into my car hitting it at approximately 2-4 mph in a "T-Bone" angle. After all was said and done some lady comes out of the resaturant where i was parked by, and admitted that she forgot to put her car in gear and put the e-brake on. Her car had zero damage...
From the looks of it i will be needing: a new bumper, Fender, headlight, headlight brackets, bumper brackets, and maybe a new wheel? If you look at the pics you can see that the motion of the mustang hitting my car moved some of the wheel, as i left them straight parallel with the curb, and after the accident i noticed that the front wheels were turned. What do you guy's think?( look at the last pic) There no visible damaged to the wheel, but you never know.
My question is what else should i do besides the obvious? should i ask for new wheels? what do you think this repair would cost around? should i ask for depreciated value? My car is an 05 just hit 70K miles also has an 07-08 Type-s/ Base conversion and painted from AM to WDP, but the sticker on the door still has the AM color code. should i tell them that the car is painted a custom color? Btw the lady that hit me has GEICO for her insurance.
All advice is welcome. I'm just bummed that this happened to my baby.....
Here's the pic of the nasty Mustang.

Yeah thats what i though when i didn't see a driver in the car.
thanx G.P. I guess it might be time for a new face lift for the car.
I know right? seem like there dropping like flies.
umm really? your new so ill look the other way.... lol. Just go to the main 3g tl section and you should see a "NEW THREAD" button on the top left part of the page. As for posting you just did.
No, it's from being cut. I had planned on molding it into the bumper, but i figured since im so low it wouldn't be wize, so i left it as is.
Thanx Tyler, i m just hoping my wheels aren't bent, but if they are....... ahhh who am i kidding i love those wheels. i just got my center caps redone yesterday haven't even had time to put them on and now this happens.
In a way in kinda happy i didnt instal my new headlight mod yet, because if not a lot of hard work would of went down the tube.

Get everything you can replaced including the wheel. I mean it wasn't your fault and she isn't paying for it, the insurance company is paying. Better to replace everything and anything that might have been damaged instead of finding out later down the line that it needs replacing.
My two cents, go after everything you can get. This is costing you time and stressing you out.

and if the girl was hot...she's not very bright if she's ditzy enough not to pull the e-brake or park the car in gear or both for that matter. really?!
its not gonna be cheap (which i'm sure you know considering how much time and $$$ you've put into the car).

Sorry to see such a nice car get damaged but on the bright side you'll get a freshly painted bumper and fender. As for wheels, mention it to the insurance company. Anything you have doubts about, please bring it up now rather than later. Good Luck with the repairs

Thanx, it breaks my heart to see it in this state. I have yet to go look at it now that its day time.
Thanx. Unfortunately the shop where i got my car painted at changed owner and management since i got my car painted, so im not sure how good they are. One of my biggest fears is that the insurance will try to replace my parts with None OEM parts. Any way i can avoid this?
I didnt know you could re-register a car for getting a different color, so no, i didn't.
I did a fake little estimate myself using oem parts list, lol. This is what i came up with.
Front bumper $303.97
Fender $380.38
Headlight $590.33
headlight bumper support/rail $38.13
Spacer, L. fr. bumper side $22.40
and not to mention in the even that i do need 2 new front wheels $1824 <-----does not include shipping.
labor $1,250-$1,500
Your absolutely right even though the girl may have been hot she's a total moron. I got the chance to talk to her and she told me that she work at the restaurant where this all happened. My guess is that she was running late for work and was rushing to "clock in".
Yeah, i hear ya Andy, wrong time wrong place
With the weather were having here it's too nice to ride with winter wheels.
Thanx. Im gonna call the insurance in a few minutes, ill keep you guys posted.
Thanx for all your support guy's. Any more tips or advice is welcome. should i ask for depreciated value due to the accident?
^^ i agree. you obviously know a good body shop (the one that repainted your car), so get everything you need replaced and have them paint/repair the car. the insurance is paying anyway. you didn't re register your car as "white" vs "gray"? didn't realize it was YOU that repainted the entire car from AM to WDP until i read your thread. nice well until this little incident.

Playing devils advocate, I don't see you getting new wheels or a headlight out of this.
Maybe the images don't properly depict the damage, but what is wrong with the headlight? I know we enthusiasts advocate having nothing short of perfection, truthfully the insurance companies do not mirror such a perspective.

oscar- if you request OEM parts insurance will negotiate a lower rate on those parts with the shop. you have a choice (unless your policy won't cover it).
i guess you have to find a new shop to do the paint work. i know a couple on my side of the river. just recently used one of them for both cars (and they took extra measures to make sure it was done correctly in both cases, esp since i said, it's not a time thing, its get the job done correctly thing. the manager handled my TL, one of his top associates handled the MDX for me with his final approval of the work). pm me if you want the info.
hopefully your rims, won't need to be replaced.

The headlight sunk inn, I aslo believe the headlight's lower mouting bracket broke of or is bent if its still in tack.

you have the right to take your car to ANY shop of YOUR choice. what if you lived in VA and you were visiting MD?
actually come to think about it. i was rear ended lightly in MD by a MD driver (provisional DL). i had my car repaired in VA at a shop of my choosing.
just remember its not necessarily the shop as it is the guy behind the spray gun. make sure the shop is well established and offers a lifetime warranty on the work (trust me on this one-said bumper above that was fixed...paint failed 3 yrs later...warranty...all fixed-the story is more complex than that, but you get my drift).
it could have been a lot worse. i've come back to my car after someone hit it parked. big ding paint scrapes...i was pissed.

the adjustor will always underestimate. the body shop (if they are good) will advocate on your behalf to make sure you get everything that needs to be fixed covered (meaning supplemental and visit to shop to see further hidden damage).
and don't fall for the you can go to one of our quick repair shops to get your car rback on the road faster. insurnace approved shops.....suck. upside you have another car you can drive, so time is not really an issue when it comes down to making sure your car is repaired correctly. good luck!

^^i believe you meant to say HER comment. let me amend my statement. "in my previous experiences dealing with insurance companies..." and as far as insurance shops...its like going to an in network provider or an out of network provider (hit and miss with quality) when you see a doctor. HMO vs PPO/out of network. OP can go wherever he pleases is the bottomline. if he chooses to go to the insurance shop...check it out first, read reviews. there probably are some good shops within those networks. i have yet to find one.

I'm an adjuster for an insurance company and it's so funny to me to read all the inaccurate things you guys say about insurance. OP, you can ask the company for OEM parts but there is no guarantee they will give them to you. My company uses aftermarket and recycled parts whenever they are available. And with most insurance companies if you read your policy contract it states they will use aftermarket parts. Now for you situation I suggest you get the estimate and check from the Insurance company and then you just buy the OEM parts yourself and take them to the body shop you want to do the repairs. As far as his comment about not using the insurance shops, that's a whole another story I'm not going to get into...but like a previous poster said it is your choice on which shop to use.
finally your saying pretty much, take the check the insurance company gives me, then just buy my own parts, find my own shop, pay for labor? What if there's hidden damage can i still get more money from the insurance company even after they have cut the check?
Thanx in advance.[/QUOTE]

Im glad you posted, maybe you can give me some more input as to how much do you think this would run around? should i ask for depreciated value to the car? will i even get it?

You can ask for diminished value but it's state specific, here in GA it's a law where you are entitled to it. I don't know your state laws so I'm unsure if you would be able to get it. If there is hidden damage the insurance company will come back out and look at the vehicle, it's called a supplement and quite common. But yes they would pay for it. That's another misunderstanding people have about insurance, just because you cash a check from them doesn't mean they are not going to pay anything else out. Also if you take the estimate to the body shop they can look over it for you and make sure nothing was missed.

As for diminished value? As stated before, check your state laws. In MO and KS, we are SOL.
And be careful about going crazy on claiming stuff that is not damaged (or proven to be damaged) by the accident...that is insurance fraud. Just try to find out what is broke and get it all fixed. The more people try to take advantage of the insurance companies, the more all our rates will continue to go up.

Dang, sorry to see that done to a clean 3G. The insurance company is pretty good about getting everything fixed. That's from my previous experience. When the adjuster comes out to take a look at your car, make sure you point to every single mark on the car that was caused by the accident.

My wife's car got smushed (rear-ended and pushed into yet another car) by an idiot driver a year or two ago. We ended up with three different supplements as the body shop found more issues and after we got the car back discovered a few more minor things. We took her car to our own body shop (out of network to the insurance) and they handled all of the interaction with the other insurance company for us.

Trust me if i had super bionic reflexes i would have turned my car on, put it in gear and moved outta the way before the mustang would have even moved an inch. Im not trying to get any additional money that isn't entitled to me. I just want my car back to "before accident status". I rather be safe than sorry, You know what i mean?

WTF what person that owns a manual tranny would not put the car in gear OR pull the ebrake up? I have owned many manual tranny cars and putting the car in gear and ebrake is like second nature you just do it automatically. Not surprised you said it was a "she" when the owner came out....women, go ahead and flame me I dont care ;-)
Sorry to see your car damaged, that owner is VERY lucky it wasnt a person that got hit and run over.
