my AEM INTAKE

There seem to be a slight problem with my AEM CAI.. when I stomp on the accelerator, the engine should have a "roaring" sound, but rather. It has a "swoosh" sound. I could barely hear the intake and somehow sounds stock to me. Do you think it is somehow connected wrong? Perhaps the filter near the bumper is not connected with the tube in the end? The engine bay seemed to be connected well with the AEM.

Please help

I installed my AEM yesterday and like others have posted you cannot tell a difference under normal driving conditions. The sound however changes dramatically under high RPMs. Its hard to explain the new sound with words like swoosh and roar because of personal interpretation.

All I can say for sure is it sounds like my engine is getting a lot more air when the Vtec kicks in at high RPMs. The sound also makes you feel like the car is accelerating faster but my guess is my ears are playing tricks on me.

I'm thinking about installing the extra power adder. Moving the IAT sensor from the throttle body to the intake. Anyone try this yet? If so, what were the results in performance?

The swoosh sound is the air being sucked into the intake....it's normal, you will hear the "roar" as you called it but it's actually the VTEC engaging....
I sure miss those sounds myself............

hes not talking about a bottle.... hes talking about moving a sensor from the throttle body to the intake pipe so that it 'reads' colder air and gives more gas

colder air + gas = more power = less gas mileage

is it worth it? i guess it would be cool if you made it so that you can pop the hood and change it in a snap. thatd be nice

hmm, I understand that under "normal driving" I can barely tell the difference. But I took my car on turnpike and revved it up (5AT), i heard loud "swoosh" then "vacuum sound", my previous car was an integra, and BOY! COULD YOU HEAR THAT AT LOW RPMs. I guess it's normal... but I seriously don't hear the roaring sound everyone's talking about. My friend who has 2003 TL type S installed INJEN, and you can hear that at low RPM...

just strange to me.... that's all

It would be better to install another sensor so you would have two. Then have a selecter swith next to the VSA switch(or anywhere else).

Step 4 in the instructions says: Optional Power Adder
In this step you move the IAT sensor from the throttle body to the intake where the hex bolt is.

The instructions say this step voids CARB approval but since I live in FL (no inspection state) it really doesn't matter.

My only fear is this step may somehow damage my car. Any thoughts on this?

You can barely hear it inside the cabin due to all the sound reduction material. My friend took it around the block so I can hear it outside. Let me tell you the sound is incredible when your not in the car. Even low end.

I moved mine today but I could see why someone would not do this after reading the instructions.
The instructions say this is for OFF ROAD USE ONLY and will void CARD approval.

What does this step actually do?
thanks

maybe this weekend I will let one of my buddies drive the TL and pass by me to hear it from the outside. I understand what you're saying about IAT , it's only for OFF ROAD USE.

I just thought maybe the CAI was installed wrong...

Tell ya what, they tell you that it is for OFF ROAD USE ONLY because it is not carb legal. That's like having a disclaimer saying "sure you can do this, but don't get caught." If you don't have inspections and all the crap, don't worry about it. As far as the intake sound is concerned, under normal driving, you will only hear a little "suction" sound that's a little more noticeable than the stock setup. The only time you will get loud badass sounds outta an intake is at WOT or faster than normal driving conditions and hitting V-Tec. Your top end should be the part the sees the best gains from that mod IMO. Just my experiences.

Yea, thats why I decided to move the sensor. Do you know why this adds more power?
thanks

As far as I know, ( I haven't gotten my TL yet ), when you bypass any sort of intake sensor or something similar, usually it just tricks the car into thinking usually that there is more air comming into the engine than there really is. That's where you get part of your gains.
