Another new member thread

Yesterday evening I picked up a 2007 TL, base with nav, with just under 72k miles. I traded in my 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. The 2.5GT is the turbo version...it was fun, but it seemed like something or other was wrong with it every month. Also, the TL feels much more solidly built, audio's loads better, and has tons more features.

Two funny bits from the dealership. I called ahead and made an appointment. When I got there, the salesman handed me the keys while he was making a copy of my license. I got out to the car, and it had a piece of paper saying "sold by JLAW" on the dash. JLAW was my salesman (Jerry Lawson), turns out the other person couldn't get financed. Then while we were signing the papers, about 30 minutes before the dealer closed, another person came in to see the car. Sucks for them!

I went back to the dealer today to give them my spare key from my Subaru, and as I was pulling out, windows down (I love the auto-down with unlocking feature), a different salesman said "so you're the one that got it!" And we chatted a bit about the car. Sounds like they've had a lot of interest in it, I'm glad I was able to snatch it up.

I don't plan to do any major mods on the TL. 35% tint (Maryland legal limit), I want to get rid of the pinstripes, and the cupholder has a little burn mark in it, so I'll be replacing that. I found the cupholders on ebay for ~$70.

My '07 MRP, base, with parchment leather

Just picked it up from the dealer yesterday, haven't taken of my own pictures yet.

I plan on 35% tint, fixing a couple little cosmetic things, and removing the pinstripes. The car has just under 72k miles on it.

I was only able to find a handful of pictures of this color online, but I love it in person. It's a nice dark red, and looks classy as hell with the tan (parchment, per Acura) leather. And this is the only year the color was available on the TL, so I get to pretend I have somewhat of a rare car.

Here are some of the dealer's pictures:

Thanks guys. I wasn't 100% sure about the color before I saw it in person, but I love it.

Is there an app for this forum? I didn't see acurazine in tapatalk, and didn't find a standalone app in the google play store.

welcome to the site and congrat on the new ride, the interior is a major upgrade for you consider you came from Subaru, those legacy GT has one big flaw that is the turbo could turn into a grenade anytime. I love the looks of the MRP out under direct sunlight.

You said it. I'd say at least once a week over on the legacy forums, someone would post a new turbo failure thread. A failed turbo can easily take out the engine, and that's a $4000+ repair if you're having it done at a shop. Kind of a scary thought to have in the back of your mind at 145,000 miles.

The legacy was a big improvement over my old 2.5RS, but the TL is in another league. Here are my old cars:

Had the RS for about 8 years, sold it last year and bought the legacy.

Only had the legacy for a little over a year and 20k miles.

Had the miata as weekend/fun car for about two and half years, just sold it a few weeks ago. I'll buy another one eventually, but figured I should "downsize" to 1 car while I'm saving to buy a house.

Welcome and congrats. Car looks great.

The color is called Morrocan Red Pearl. Hate to break it to you, but the color was available in 07 & 08 both the base and Type-S models.

Congrats on the purchase love the color. If you wanna see the highest quality pics of MRP just search my username and enjoy :-)
Like said above MRP was an 07 and 08 color. I believe MRP is the rarest color in both the Type S and probably base as well, but have no numbers to back that, just my own opinions based on years of searching . KBP isn't far behind on the Type S, but you do see a decent amount of them around in autos.
It's definately a great color that almost has a slight orange hue in direct sunlight.
35% tint is gonna look perfect on your car, and I like the idea of removing pin stripe. It's gonna be a clean looking TL.
Congrats!

Nice...if anything ever happened to my 06, I'd probably just get an 07-08. I do like that color.

Sorry about that, I was (and still am) a little giddy over the new purchase. I'll limit my postwhoring in the future.

The Legacy interior was a nice upgrade over my Impreza. It did have a lot of new-to-me features - dual zone climate control, heated/power seats, and heated side mirrors and windshield wiper strip. However, my roommate got a 1st gen TSX shortly after I got my Legacy. The fit and finish/material quality was immediately and painfully obvious. And the TL, of course, is even nicer than the TSX.

I became a Subaru fanboy in middle school, when I played Gran Turismo 2, and had my heart set on a turbo Subie. I was also very much anti-automatic transmission and anti-FWD, probably from watching too much Top Gear. I had the idea stuck in my head that I wanted my DD to be a fun car. I've since come around, and decided that I just want my DD to be a reliable, solid, comfortable car. I've been driving more for work (sales), and shifting became a chore, especially with the less-than-stellar tranny in the Legacy.

I don't see myself buying another Subaru again as a DD, and I used to be a pretty vocal supporter. I'd consider one as a winter beater, but I'd probably rather just get a truck for the added utility.
