Mustang Ownage

So it's like this....I'm on main street, on the way to run some errands...and this mustang pulls up to me....so he asks me to roll the window down (at this point i thought he wanted some directions or something) -- but he goes what you runnin in that thing?, then he was almost insulting it (my TL) -- so whatever i let it go, cause im like i barely have 2500 miles on it yet why am i gonna push it too hard...so anyways he is like revving the engine at me, his car had to be an auto because from the way he was revving it was eitehr that or he was putting it into neutral and taking off real smooth each time -- anways, so we approach another light and he is dissing the TL once again, so im like fine, so i turned my VSA off...then the light turned green....

You know, this was the biggest waste of gas ALL WEEK!!!, normally with the VSA on, the car just chirps second gear, but in this case, we were neck and neck from the light, and at the end of 1st gear when i shifted into 2nd, the car pulled a little to the right and the tires continued to spin for atleast a second or 1.5 seconds...by the time i hit 3rd i had one car length on him -- and by 4th well, my rearview can only see so far....

so then before i turned for the highway off main, the guy goes to me, "you didnt tell me that came in a manual" -- so i go "whatever dude, the main difference is that you got embarrased and i didnt even even hit high gear, if this was the highway, your FORD would have overheated by now, and I would be halfway to New Mexico, then i took off on him.....

just thought i'd share :-)

btw for all who are wondering, my car is still stock yea, cause just got it recently, gonna start working up some mods on it soon -- my previous ride was a 01 accord ev v6 coupe -- tranny went on that one had alot of mods on it though, and honda didnt warranty it at 96K miles even though i had the extended 100K on it...oh well, it was an AT anyways

G35? wow I thought they both were pretty close by comparison. But it usually comes down to the driver at that point. Theres a guy on the forum named Ruf who i now can take just about anybody in his TL just cause he knows how to drive the shit out of that car.

Don't hate on civics. A lot of them out there will walk the shit out of the TL not to mention STi's and EVO's. You gave into racing the mustang and you won this time. You might run into a civic and get embarassed by a $2500 car.

yeah dats true...those civic hatchback with a type-r engine they run 12's easily...so yeah it totally depends on the driver also..with the right engine...its rare to see it around where i live at..

cool beans ! I would take a guess that the Ford you raced is either a V6 or GT. I am leaning toward the GT since you were neck in neck for the first gear or so . Not that you race alot, but I would suggest learning about other brands (even the so-called garbage rides) could benefit you at times when an actual mustang cobra comes along. You could be the laughing stock on their forum if you went up against a Cobra and lost

very nice story, I enjoyed reading it

btw: This thread should have been posted in ''RACES AND COMPETITION".

I would hope anyone here would be smart enough not to race a Cobra or a Saleen, but I guess if they can't spot one they might make that mistake...I bet they'd know how to spot one going forward, though!

sounds like you ran an auto V6 mustang, if it was a GT(V8) he would have been right behind you the whole time

I dont think so. A v6 Mustang 'vert wouldn't have had a chance in hell against the TL 6MT. Or even 5AT for that matter. GT 'verts are heavy and slow. My bro's 03 Type-S took 'em on easily just with an intake, and after he went on a mod frenzy, even GT coupes didn't have shit on him.

Of course, I'm talking about the previous gen, not the current model.

my friend owns a GT, i've raced him plenty of times, trust me a GT can keep up, but is not faster. he raced a V6, but i'm the guy who did the racing knows, but he never mentioned it

If it's a coupe, sure, it can easily keep up. But the 'verts are heavier and slower. If it was a V6, he should've pulled from him like crazy in 2nd gear.

V6 stangs are slow, my 99 smokes even the MT's easily. The GT's MT are pretty fast and equal drivers in both cars the GT would beat a TL 6MT.

Yeah I could be V6 rustangs in my Accord 4-cylinder... it was close, though.

However, if it stayed with a TL off the line and wasn't far behind even in 2nd, it must've been a GT convertible. A V6 would have been buslengths away by 2nd gear.

Most saleens are just GT's with their little enhancement. Not all of the saleens come with superchargers either, but yes rule of thumb is that they are fast. Now the cobra on the other hand, I miss mine, Its an animal, especially 03/04 cobras.......whats even better is that if it has a ported blower from Steig or a KB and or whipple....watch out then

not hating on them -- i have a bunch of friends with project civics -- but it really comes down to this....

if you put 12K in a civic to make it fast, I can pretty much put that 12K into my TL to also make it fast, and still look a hell of a lot better.

That and the fact, i cant justify putting 12K into a 2500 car -- all that work and then it might just fall apart driving to work one day haha!

thanks to everyone else for your replies -- i am sure the car wasnt a v6, i took off pretty quick from the light and he was neck and neck with me, i really didnt feel a pull on him until i did the quick shift to 2nd gear....i guess they just get slow after a while i mean it is a ford ;-P
