I'm always on the lookout now for a 69 Z28 that someone may be selling below market for quick cash. But based on the Barrett Jackson prices this year I think the cheap American muscle car years are behind us.

I once owned a 1966 SS 396 Chevelle. I was the original owner and ordered it.. I still have the order form from the dealer, hand written by the salesman. It had the 360 HP engine which was designated L34 and was the only year that engine was ever produced by Chevrolet in that particular configuration and state of tune. There were two other engines available for the Chevelle SS; the L35 was the base engine at 325 HP and there was the real sleeper L78 375 solid lifter engine.
My Chevelle was Maroon with a black vinyl top and the standard Chevy "bowtie" baby moon hub caps with the stamped steel wheels painted the same color as the car. No A/C, no power brakes, and no power steering to take away from the engine. I also ordered sintered metallic brake linings for the car. An M21 Muncie close ratio 4-speed (2.20 first) was the tranny and power went through a 3.73:1 posi-traction rear. I had the simulated wood steering wheel and full factory instrumentation, Strato bucket seats with console, and an AM/FM radio with rear seat speaker (hi-tech, eh?).
In box stock condition with the standard tuning tricks to the Holley single feed 660 CFM carb and the Delco distributor, the car would manage 13.3. Later Hooker headers, straight thru exhaust, an R3310 780 dual feed center pivot Holley, reworked ignition, and LS6 valve springs and retainers got it to 12.8.

OK, you guys are making me reminisce on the old days....
I "had" a 76 Trans Am, purchased it my junior year in HS - sold it when I was 32. Stock it came with 455. After building/running numerous Pontiac blocks I transplanted a brand new LS6/454 crate motor from GM racing. Changed the solid lifter cam with a high lift/duration Comp Cams hydraulic along with a few other LS7 goodies. Approx 550 hp with over 500 fp torque. The best part about it the car looked completely stock except for the Centerline rims and 50 series Goodyear Gaterbacks all around. Ran in the 12's on the street tires with stock 3-23 gears.
Now, it got really fun when I added the 275 hp NOS cheater system. Never did time the NOS with slicks and it was all you could do to get it to hook up "once in 3rd..." I'm sure it would have easily broke into the 11's. Overall, the fastest car I have ever been in from 80-150 mph. Out of all the engines I built, raced, etc., the LS6 & LS7 454 was the best. The bottom end of both, which is identical w/exception to compression ratio, was bulletproof.
OK, now back to 2005.... Marriage does have a way of changing your "toys"... But the wife did say OK when I brought up the idea of checking out the 2006 Z06 Corvette.....
So yes, the TL is a nice car and has sufficient hp, but when it comes to something "fast", I don't think of my TL - I think of my LS6 "TA".

nice guys. My 71 has a 572 crate motor with 13:1 compression. Blown, hooker headers, NOWEEDS dump off exhaust, after the dump off it has 3 inch pipe into flowmaster single chambers. 8 point roll cage, 2 race seats up front, no seats in the back, 12 gallon fuel cell, really the list goes on. Its a car my father and i built. And is not street legal. It is trailered to the track and trailered home. ven though, i did drive it to wawa one time. If youde liek to know about that ide be glad to share hah

I have a 67 mustang convertable, fixed and owned it for about 7 years now....bought it before i even had a drivers license (had my permit though).
rebuilt the motor last year, isnt terribly fast but it does move...nice when its warm outside and the top is down. TL is the new daily driver.

not really a muscle car but damn fast for what it was especially considering the time it was built....late 70s - early 80s were pretty dark times for performance cars.
it was na, and over the last few years i slowly turned it inot "my race car" it had a ported and shaved head, headers, a 77 intake manifold, big bore throttle body, turbo intake box, a full racing cam, exaust (no cat) a new hipo distributer, high flow oil pump, oil cooler.... most of the normal stuff....
i also lightned it. i gutted the interior, got rid of all the ac components, heater core was bad, so all that went as well. spare, jack, back glass was plastic... dropped 250- 300 lbs all told
it also had a racing suspension, larger sway bars, h&r springs, kyb struts, poly bushings, strut bars.... and a start to a roll cage to round out the package....
great car.... not fast enough to be competative, especially in a modified class. but lots of fun...
after my dad died i lost the "drive" to keep up with it.... although the car was always my responsibility he always found a way to make me do it..... keeping up with the car was very time consuming and labor intensive.... it sat from about 3 months before he died (dec 03) till 2 months ago. i finally sold it as i just wanted someone else to enjoy it and for it not to sit any longer. plus the body had taken a turn for the worse, and it would have needed some major work....
i will build a car again, maybe in a few years, maybe with my son (which i havent had yet).

Owned a 66 Mustang GT (289, 4bbl, 225hp) that had been reworked to about 300hp. Would love to have it back. Just over the weekend a friend let me drive his 05 Rousch Mustang (Stage 2 - 425hp) and if I didn't have 3 years left on my TL lease I might have one in my own driveway now. An incredibly wicked-fast car!

In addition to my 05 NBP TL, I own a 1967 Pontiac GTO that I restored with my father while I was in high school (8 years ago). It has the stock 400 HO engine but I will be installing a butler 467 stroker with 525hp and then I can pack away the original motor and have somre real fun. It's burgundy with black interior and 4 speed on the floor. It has no options at all besides the HO (360hp) motor. I guess it was purchased to haul ass and that it does, I brought it to the strip and I blew the clutch on the first pass. I was able to ease it off the line for 4 more passes. With the bad clutch, I was able to run in the mid 14s at 101mph. With the centerforce racing clutch it would have run in the 13's easily since 60' times were 2.5 with the bad clutch and should be around 1.7. 1 tenth 60' equals 2tenths in the quarter. So thats not bad for a pure stock muscle car.

I have a 1969 Camaro Z-28 clone. It is white with black stripes. It has a 327 bored .010 over with 10:1 flat tops, Edelbrock Performer cam and intake, Crane roller rockers, Holley 600cfm double pumper, headers, B&M Turbo 350 with 2500 rpm stall, 12 bolt rear with Eaton posi. I don't have any pictures yet. I am still putting it all back together after a frame off restoration. It has new paint, new interior, all new front suspension, sub-frame and all the suspension has been powder coated, etc., etc. As soon as I get it together and have some pictures, I'll post them.

I have a 1969 Dodge Dart GT convertible.
The car was originally born with a 273/2bbl/auto (not muscle!), but was changed to a 340/4bbl/auto by a previous owner (lots 'o' muscle).
My avatar shows me lighting 'em up at Long Island Dragway (RIP). More photos and details at my website (see my sig).
It's amazing that the TL is a better car in almost every way (the Dart's quicker), but the Dart is the one that never fails to make me happy when I'm driving it.

What carburetor do you have? Is it a Thermo-quad?

Actually, I bought the car with an 800CFM Thermoquad (Thermobog?) and factory Thermoquad intake on it. The car ran great for a while, but as Thermoquads do, mine eventually started giving me trouble.
Years ago I switched to a 600CFM Edelbrock Performer (AFB) on a MOPAR Performance M1 dual-plane intake. Throttle response was greatly improved and fuel economy (such as it is!) actually went up a bit too. I don't get the throaty roar through the intake that the Thermoquad provided, but the car is better with the current setup.
Are you another TL/MOPAR hybrid?

Along side my 05 RRP TL sits my 68 firebird convertible. 350 V8, Factory 4-speed car, Verdoro Green with black top and black deluxe interier. Car is bone stock original. Also in storage is my 69 GTO hardtop. I bought that 10 years ago. It is also bone stock right down to the 8-track tape player. It has won 2 national shows in 69 stock hardtop peoples choice. I miss driving it but can't get any decent gas for it anymore. It has been sitting in storage for the past 3 years. I may pull it out this spring and put some miles on it. Last but not least, I purchased a 2002 Ram Air Trans-am new. Are you seeing a pattern here. I'm a die hard pontiac guy and this acura is my first Honda product. My daily driver is a 97 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4X4. I've had about 75 cars since I was 16. Most of them muscle cars.

Might be moving further away from off topic acura discussions..
Im not sure if this is a state by state law (would make sense if it was) but I think there is a limit on the amount of cars you can sell before you need to get a business permit or license. In california I think you can buy and then sell up to 8 cars a year...I guess that would count as owning, although not in the traditional sense of keeping a car until a new one is needed/wanted.

I miss that thing. The 6 piston A/C compressor was amazing. I measured the temperature of the air it blew into the cabin at 25 degrees F!

1968 Mustang Coupe. Built the motor myself with some goodies (JBA Ceramic Coated Headers, Performer RPM intake, 600 Holley, etc...). Nothing too wild, but a fun car for the weekends. Not as fast as the TL I'd say, but more interesting to drive.
