Multivex mirrors

Has anyone heard of Multivex mirrors being illegal in NJ? My car failed inspection today only because of this. I wrote to NJ motor vehicle services and am awaiting a reply. This is the message sent to them:

'My vehicle was inspected today and failed as I was told it has a passenger side mirror on the driver's side when in fact, it is an aftermarket convex mirror called a Multivex mirror (web site is https://secure57.softcomca.com/multi...net/index.html ). These are in fact safety mirrors used to eliminate blind spots when driving. I would like a copy of the NJ vehicle code statute indicating why such a safety device would be deemed illegal. I don't want to remove it until I have evidence from the state of NJ (your office) indicating that this safety device is truly in violation of the vehicle code. Thank you for your cooperation.'

Any ideas? I've had them on for ~ 1 year, and really like them- I hate the idea of taking the driver's side mirror off.

Don't know why they would be illegal...see what they write you back. Jersey inspection is just a pain in the ass.

It's pretty simple.. Take it off and put it back after inspection

Jersey inspection isn't that bad... Look @ it this way you guys don't have to pay

NY: $10 for the first inspection (after initial 1 year of ownership)
NY: 2nd inspection $37

NY inspection is ANNUAL

I agree that I can take them off and put them back on, but I want the burden of proof to be on NJ- I want the statute that says I can't have these on the car.

OK, I got my response from the state (NJ)- there is a statute that says convex mirrors can't be used for the interior mirror or the driver's mirror, but, a broken mirror is acceptable if the image behind the vehicle can be seen.

Ahhh, NJ, a great place to live...

I guess I'll have to remove the mirror, temporarily of course.

their intent is to keep you from having a 2 inch round blind spot mirror as your driver side mirror- now much reality of whats coming in those by themself

If yours is a hi tech device that does not distort the view or distance-thats a key point- distance of other vehicles...note passenger side mirrors say Objects may be closer than they appear

what you do later is up to you
