Mud Flaps - Yea or Nea?
Title says it all. Just ordered an 05 AM Navi AT and was wondering whether to buy the flaps. If I wasn't buying a darker colored TL I wouldn't consider buying them as I understand they are not painted. Any thoughts or comments?

They are black kinda rubberized plastic or something. They don't really stand out much and appear to help some. Why not?
BTW, really easy install, I've had them on three Acura's; self installed on one.

I love mine. Gotta get them painted to match though.

The splash guards do make a difference. I had been driving my NBP TL for two months without the splash guards. A month ago I put the splash guards on. It definitely keeps the car cleaner. I have a NBP so the splash guards blends in and I like how it looks.

bgut1 are you in a state that gets really bad weather like sleet and snow? if so id get them, u can always take them off in the summer, i dont think they are needed as much down south and in cali, thats just my opinion, they work best at stopping sand and road salt from goin all over your front door and rear bumper in bad weather.

I have read somewhere here that they scratch the painting. If that really happens, I think one of those 3M foam tapes could take care of that. I kind of like the flaps.

I have them on a WDP and don't think they detract from the look at all. They keep the lower portions of the car cleaner so I don't have to wash it as much. Mud flaps will always be one of those subjective decisions each owner has to decide if they like them or not.

HUGE NAY!!! They really take away from the clean lines of the TL. Also, you cant have the bodykit+mudflaps.

I got them...
But, then again, where I live they're nearly a necessity to protect the lower areas of the car from thrown up sand and gravel put down on the streets and roads in winter.
The do help help keep the car cleaner year around.
As others have suggested here, if you have a lighter color on your vehicle get them painted to match. I'm pretty sure that the plastic they're made from can be primed and painted. It will cost you a few bucks to have this done, but probably well worth it.

I have Anthracite and installed my mud guards within a few days of buying the car. They blend in very nicely with AM.. you'll hardly notice them and they are not large so they kinda stay out of sight more than some of the guards on the market.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Nope. You just use the screws and holes that are already there. Takes about 1/2 hour for all. Just make sure you have a stubby Phillips screwdriver and/or one of those "L" shaped phillips drivers.

Get them...I've had them installed on my last 3 Hondas, and it makes a difference. I have them on my current desert mist and on black and white. It doesn't make a difference what color your car is, they look fine and will save you a ton of headaches in the future.

Absolutely agree.. They are worth it. What I considered when I got these installed on my 05, and on my Accord before was the possiblity of rocks, etc. that might be thrown up and damage the side of the car.

I have them on my DPG TL and they look great. Black is a color that matches perfectly; the tires are black. They don't need to be painted the car's color, and they do help to keep the car cleaner.

I've got'em on my SSM and I think they look great. If you're concerned with scratching the paint I recommend appying some of the 3M clearbra material (similar to window film but thicker and clear). When I had the clearbra put on I had the guy also apply some behind each wheel prior to installing the flaps. The combo works really well. Just my .02

If you want to see what a SSM looks like with painted guards check out the link in my signature. Painted them about 4k ago and they still look great.

Although I have mud flaps, there is one down side with them.
If it's bad weather and some ^#$%Head is following too close, I like to drive on the sloppiest part of the road and cover their windshield with dirty water, slurry, salt, etc.
Mud flaps reduce the amount of "corrective material" I can apply to the idiot.

After driving on the freeway and a fair amount of city driving, do you experience any scuffs or noticable marks on the doors? I'm afraid that this comes from the lack of mud flaps, but don't want to put mud flaps on my brand new TL (1 week old) unless this is a very common problem that will only be solved by the mud flaps... I mean I don't want to have to wash the car all the time because the tires are throwing up crap onto the side of my car.
