MTF Sensor? Or not?

So I needed some warranty work done, had a clicking noise which is coming from the axles according to some other members on this forum, and needed a new LED center brake light, and replaced the clutch pedal (clicking)

So I thought if the techs are going to do the axles, I might as well have them do the tranny MTF, so I asked the service rep if they would do it, and I would pay the difference, since everything was covered under warantee and I was asking them to do some more work.

They called me back, telling me that there is some sensor in the tranny, which is connected to the MID, and the only way to reset the MID from prompting to change the MTF is to change it, so I would have to change it twice or more than necessary if I had them do it.

I call BS, and I know a lot of people get the GM synchromesh and claim it does wonders.........I dont have any shifting or tranny problems, but I figured if the axle will be off, they might as well.

Some good info about the GM MTF can also be found here

So my queation I guess is, is the MID somehow connected to the MTF as well as motor oil?

News to me. I drained and filled my '04 manual tranny fluid with GM Synchromesh Friction Modified in the spring of last year. No MID resetting involved then.

The code for the transmission fluid change is a 3, and under normal conditions it probably won't show up until you have driven 100,000 miles. The manual doesn't specify if this is auto or MT so I guess it is the same for both, but when it does show up, you can reset the MID just like you do for any other service reminder.

It's possible, but I don't think there is any sensor in there. It will compute just like it does for everything else, using miles driven as the major criteria.

So, I agree with the BS claim.
