MT vs SS...
I didnt know what section to post this under so i just put it under this....
I was wondering, how much faster is the TL if you shift with the sport shift as opposed to just leaving it in automatic? And what about manual transmission vs sport shift? Is sport shift as fast as manual? Thanks alot guys!

If you floor it from a stop, the automatic should have the same 0-60 time regardless of whether it's in SS mode or not. However, if you're cruisign down the street and you anticipate you will need to accelerate hard soon, you can put it in SS and downshift so that the power is there immediately when you need it instead of waiting for the auto to downshift.
Like once I was on the on ramp climbing onto the expressway, and this bozo in a WRX behind me swerved around me to try to pass me. I had anticipated his move (because he had been tailgating me aggressively) so I was already in SS mode in 2nd gear. So when he tried to pass, I floored it, and my car took off and left him in the dust. If I had not been in SS mode, my transmission would've been in 4th instead of 2nd, and when I floored it it would've taken about one full second for my car to downshift and accelerate, and one second is a long time when racing.

Regardless of SS or MT...Bottom line is that MT as a proven fact; MT have better 0-60 times for two reasons. First the MT is lighet in weight than the SS/AT...Second MT transmissions rev quicker to a higher redline than SS...The performance of both are excelent, but MT will always take a quicker response

one day automatic will beat MT....near future.....

^ lol... BMW M3 DCT .... thats a freaking automatic!!
problem wth SS mode, when racing or flooring it.. is sometimes, there is a slight shift delay from 2nd to 3rd.. you need to shift like 300rpm before redline, otherwise you'll bang the rev-limiter.. which will drastically slow you down

However when it comes to street cars a manual with a good driver will always beat an automatic of the same model...

SS is better than MT, but in the TL's case the MT is better for a few reasons:
1. 6 gears vs. 5 gears - more gears can mean better acceleration
2. Lower weight
3. shorter gears
4. lower final drive
5. lower chance to bang the rev-limiter, but higher chance of mis-shifting
If we compare SS to a equally equiped MT (same gears, final drive, etc), the SS will win:
1. Instant shifts, less than .1 seconds in some cars
2. 0 chance of mis-shifting because the computer will not allow the shift

no matter what though... i think the Drive-by-Wire kills shit for this car.... and thats why the automatics suck in my opinion.. im sure its the same on the 6MT ? that terrible delay from the computer to open the throttle
what ever happened to nice steel cables that opened the throttle up ??

I think the 04-06 TL SS is different than 07+ SS. Porsche turbo tiptronic is faster than the manual by quite a bit according to the stats. No idea how or why. SS will shift automatically too, it wont let you go over redline. I hear its back to let SS shift by itself.

Yeah the 997 Turbo and all new SUPER cars automatic tranny are quicker...and its only the beginning...soon this will be true for cars like the TL. We'll have to pay extras to get the manual version.....or get the sportier version (TYPE-S) to have the manual option.
I had to jump start my car yesterday, cause my friend left my CarPc ON all night...thats a thing you can't do with a SS/Auto.....Did you guys noticed how our car is really heavy to push LOLLLL
