To wavshrdr;

Lost your accent??!!?? Never lose your accent. Every indigenous region of the U.S. has it's unique culture, heritage, traditions, and institutions. And the South is no different. I love it. The old saying, "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God" applies to me. And I'm quite certain others of our members from their distinct U.S. regions can attest to the same unique attributes of their specific areas. I just happen to love being Southern.

Now -59 degrees is MUCH TOO COLD for the human body to endure. I personally prefer temperatures in the mid to upper 80's.

Now I would like to comment on wavshrdr's text regarding our government's meddling into the affairs of citizens. Government is created to serve the governed. While this is usually not the case in most of the world's nations, it is here in America. WE are the boss.. the manager.. the owner. Government is our employee, a contractor if you will, charged with doing our bidding because we do not have the time or inclination to do it ourselves.

Somewhere along the way, this managed to get corrupted. At some point, government started to think of itself as the boss and us as its workers. This is most dangerous because in the entire history of man, the most evil and insidious invention of the human mind is government. Nothing is more evil. Nothing is more invasive. Nothing is more destructive. Want proof? Just look at the last century and what it brought the world. Communism. Nazism. Asian imperialism. Socialism. The only thing that keeps government in check is its fear of the governed. Jefferson told us that the government which governs best, governs least. He also said that governments govern best when they govern in fear of the governed.

So what does this have to do with "You can thank the US government for a lot of it. Each drivetrain has to be certified for emissions testing, EPA readings, etc. "? Just the loss of some more individual freedom.

Sorry I climbed up on my soap box. But the intrusive nature of government really gets my dander up. It's the Southern in me. You see, we don't trust and don't particularly like government.

Both my parents were Southerners but moved North later in life. My mom said the more North I go the more Southern I sound. A lot of truth in that. I lost my accent while away for a while but then it returned when I moved back to the South. Can't you tell by the way I type or have I lived too long up North again? :-)

I too am tired of the government thinking we are ITS servants rather than the other way around. I spend a lot of time in socialist countries and I can tell you that is where we are heading if we don't wise up. How would you like your Federal Income Tax rate to START at 53%!!!! How about taxes that jack the price of gasonline up to $7.00/gallon. Want to know something really surprising, do you realize that the individual tax rate for a citizen in Russia is less than America! In other words the percentage of income tax paid by Russian individuals is 15%. Pretty bad when a former (and possibly returning somewhat) communist country has a lower tax rate for it's citizens than the USA does. BTW, gas is cheaper in Russia too.

At least we still have a choice at this point with transmissions and the cars we drive. Buy what you like and be happy we still have choices for a while yet.

I actually had the AT ordered and was going to pick it up, when I noticed it had 500 miles on it ... the dealer had to trade with another dealer and DROVE it for the exchange ...when he wouldn't deal with me, I walked off and picked up an 6MT that week!

I am so glad I got the 6MT ... fate! It is just much more fun to drive, even when sitting in Philly traffic ... but in the end it all boils down to what you want. It is your car and you have a driving style and preference.

Either way you will have fun ...the 6MT is a little more performance based.

I got a 6 speed and I LOVE IT!!!!! I use to own a 03 TL Type S and I won't go back to an auto for a while. I'm not sure if this is correct but a mechanic told me that you loose about 30% more torque at the wheels with an auto. Test drive both cars and I'm sure you'll find the 6MT faster.

I agree with that. Usually, that's the way it ends up.

To me there is no "logical" reason for why I chose the 6MT, except for the fact that I wanted it, and it was more FUN.

Hogwash. This mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about. I have a VERY strong bias in favor of manual transmissions, but I can still recognize crap. And this is a load of it.

Yeah, it is not 30% - NO WAY! The AT will be faster if the 6MT can't drive/shift right. The AT does recognize when you are in "performance" mode and will shift more aggressively the one advantage is that you can rev up the 6MT and then dump the clutch for a quick start which is where races are won or lost anyway (for the straight ¼ mile). But then again the TL is not a drag car there are numerous threads for this subject.

Like the previous post quoted, if you have to ask then go with the AT.
