Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased an 05 Acura TL with about 90k. So far so good, but was told recently by my mechanic that I need a new rear motor mount. He demonstrated the engine moving so it is not as though I do not trust him. However, he quoted me the following:

$175 labor
$170 parts + tax
$356.88 total

It seems that the labor cost might be accurate given that it takes a bit more time to replace. However, the cost of the part seems rather high. I wanted to check with others on here. It seems some recommend replacing all the mounts at once, but I'd prefer not to unless absolutely necessary. I just had to buy tires last month and bought the TL because of what I expected to be low maintenance costs. Lastly, I am not mechanically inclined and am definitely not taking this on as a DIY project although I would appreciate any recommendations of mechanics in the Columbus, OH area that would allow me to purchase my own parts for them to install. It seems not many in this area are accepting of this. I appreciate anyone's help and/or input!

and from that site i gave, it list for $127.28, list price from Honda is $170.

so, your mechanic quoted you the exact price for the rear mount

 

Thanks for the help justnspace. I recognized that maintenance costs would be higher than an economy car, but also bought into the reliability of Acuras. I'll check the site you recommended. In my early searches it seems $170 is expensive for a rear motor mount, but figured a few experts on here might be able to confirm. Thanks again for your help!

 

If you want the mounts as soft as before, you should stick with an OEM replacement. If you want something more durable that's a bit stiffer, we sell our XLR8 engine mounts for $300 for a set of four. These mounts are heavy duty mild steel mounts that have been coated with a satin black finish and improved polyurethane bushings.

Thank you for the help, ExcelerateRep. The link you provided does not seem to work and the only mounts on the site seem to be in a bundle.

I'd appreciate other input if possible if the quote above from the mechanic is in line with expectations as well as if it's necessary to replace all of them at the same time.

 

Seems odd the rear is bad, but the front and side are still good. It's usually the other way around. Might as well just do all three now. The other two are on borrowed time and you'll probably get a break on labor if you do all three. The side mount literally takes 10 minutes.

 

Just as a side note. Are you using a Honda/Acura shop to do this?

Here's why I ask.

If you are using a independent shop mechanic to do this than he may be over charging you for the motor mount. Sure the list price for the OEM HONDA motor mount is $170 but that is for the OEM HONDA mount..

Chances are your independent shop isn't going to drive to the nearest Honda or Acura dealership to purchase a OEM motor mount. Some dealerships don't deliver, others deliver only if the price of the parts is over a $xxx.00 amount Instead they will order from O'reilly auto parts or any other part supply shops they have a account with.

If they do buy a aftermarket brand motor mount to replace it, chances are it will only cost them less than $100 for the part.

So you might be paying OEM price for a aftermarket brand motor mount. Labor isn't the only way shops make money...
