The most ridiculous sensor ever - gas cap

I've had my tls for 13 days and the gas cap sensor is on. Its covered and not a big deal (I've done my research here), but curious why Acura would design a sensor for the gas cap.

its like any cap - oil cap, shrader valve caps, radiator cap, ball caps etc.....oh wait - there are sensors for those too? anyway. tired of this stupid light on.............. 13 days and its goin in the shop.

but seriously of the decades I have been driving a gas cap has never been the problem....gas yes...cap no.

BTW still love the car - its my new garage queen. I never drive it - just start it up to see the gas cap warning and turn it off.

^^^I left the dealership with my CPO TL-S with this error....of course it was covered but it took 3 times for the dealership to get it right. ALOT of newer cars will pop a CEL when a gas cap is not on tight...but it is dumb I think....

Dude the warning has to do with the evap system in the car. You obviously dont know a whole lot about cars, but the fuel system is under pressure, if the seal on the gas cap is not sealing properly you will get a CODE cause the car senses the drop in pressure. Its very important to the car that its got a proper seal.

Was the insult necessary? You obviously don't know a whole lot about tact.

seems like a common issue on the type-s.

i've had mine for 3 months and it's happened a handful of times.

Yeah - it seems like the sensors that trigger the CEL are very sensitive on this car. I get three different codes, an average of twice per year:

1) Gas cap not on tight
2) Engine cylinder misfire
3) Emissions system malfunction

The gas cap one just goes away on its own after a day or so. The other two I usually clear with my OBD II scanner after putting a couple of bottles of gas treatment in the car and all is well. I figure if there is a real problem, the light will come back on again within a few days and it never does.

The CEL with this car is VERY annoying, but one of only a few gripes with the car overall. It helps to buy a scanner (can get them for like $30-50 on Amazon) and keep a few bottles of gas treatment in the garage.

Thanks

not sure I need to defend myself here, but I will say I don't know much about this TL type s although its the second one I've owned. The threads I've seen here mostly tie back to a common problem with this type of vehicle and the headaches to replace "I've been back to the dealership [insert number here] and its still not fixed."

obviously the sensor, while the design might be beneficial, this particular application is weak.

This has happened to me also. I think it was because i did not tighten the gas cap with the clicks. It did go away after a couple of days.

not a stoopid question. I did the research and only discovered that this problem is chronic in nature "chief".. but discovered more with your response which I do appreciate. You dont know what you dont know -

while I searched several threads I did not know there was more to the story.

oh - by the way can you tell me what the best oil to use is

The next time you break the rules for posting on this site, you will be temp banned. You've been warned before. Seems like you don't care about the site anyway so just go ahead and leave or just make another stupid comment and I'll help you leave.

To everyone else reading this, there has been a lot of bullshit posts in 3G and I'm sick of it. If you have nothing to contribute to a thread, stay out of the thread. This forum is information based, always has been and always will be. It's an online forum, what do you think is going to happen when we have new members? It's the repeat offenders whom I will not mention here that need to stop making reposts.

/ rant.
