Moleskin Installed!!!!

I have had Pinnacle Ceramic Tint installed on my car since last July and ever since my tint has been scratched pretty bad. This tint is top notch stuff. I called the tint shop this March and told them that my tint has been scratched due to the plastic window wiper in between the door panel and window. He knew what I was talking about and he said he would replace my tint under the lifetime warranty. I just had to have the felt moleskin installed myself. I ordered my moleskin from someone on here named flnsx which was a fast delivery by the way. My friend installed it for me and it took like 3 dang hours though because 2 of the door panels where difficult to remove, but they are now all on. When I roll my windows down and up I dont here a squeal like I did before. This Saturday I get my tint replaced and I can't wait

Anyone have instructions on how to install Moleskin WITHOUT removing the Door-Panels ? Maybe it is just me but I am paranoid when it comes to tearing apart the interior. Any help is appreciated.

Actually you don't have to remove the entire panel off . The panel is still on but not compltely its just enough so you can remove the plastic wiper from the inside. It takes a little arm strenght to pull the panel off because its fastened by plastic clips. Once they are off its easy after that. Very easy to snap the panel back in. You just have the hit the areas around the panel that snaps back in its place. Hope that helps.

Go to the 3G Garage sticky thread on the front page index and look for moleskin. There are old threads with instructions and lots of step-by-step color photos.

I did mine. It was easy. About one hour all together in a clean garage.

I also ordered my Moleskin from flynx. A pleasure to deal with and the instuctions were really easy as he promised. The directions he includes 2 ways of installing them. 1-remove entire door panel (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) 2-Pulling panel away enough to install the Moleskin. Option 2 gives you wrinkles on the leather by the window. I used option 2 on the front windows and I got wrinkles in the leather.
Dont get me wrong, some people do use option 2 and has no wrinkles.

Use Goo Gone to get the glue streaks off.

You have to make sure the moleskin is not hanging off the side of the weather strip when you install it.

Just leave a small amount of plastic showing on the sides. Then the moleskin will NEVER come up.

Keep cleaning with Goo Gone. Eventually the streaking will stop. I've had my moleskin on for over a year now. I was getting the glue streaks but haven't seen them since last summer.

Honestly, removing the panel is not that hard at all, remove four screws and thats it. My advice, search Acurazine on how to remove door panels and order from Empire ($5.00) and you will save yourself some $$. use this link.

Same thing happened to me. I uninstalled and installed three times trying to figure out what was happening. I was cutting the moleskin in two to fit the window trim but I finally discovered not doing this solved my streaking issues... I think. Gona have my tints redone tomorow and going to instal agian leaving the moleskin at its original 1" thickness see what happens.

I think the glue streaks appear when weather is warm, glue melts a little and friction overturns the moleskin so glue gets on window. I hope your right and it doesnt happen to you again, but just giving you a heads up.

Peace,

Rolan

Rolan04TL,

You problem is that you are using the CHEAP generic moleskin felt for $5.

The generic moleskin adhesive is NOT meant to be heated up or to get wet. The glue breaks down no matter what with that crap felt. It gets over 150 degrees inside your door panel in less than 30 minutes.

I just don't get it. People would rather save $20 and get the generic stuff that doesn't work leading them to RE-DO their tint over and over again.

The Tint Protector Moleskin Works for the life of your car if you install it correctly. We make it with an acrylic resin that sticks forever.

You get what you pay for.

flnsx, I used your moleskin and the glue is transferring to the window. and I'm not too sure how the goo gone is gonna react to the tint. oh and I made sure nothing was hanging off. I roughed the surface a bit and cleaned the seals with alcohol just like the instructions say and it's still happening.

Funny thing is what you see in the picture was with the product i bought from TintProtector.com, Since I had to remove the $25 product because it was streaking glue I decided I was not going to spend another $25 dollars on it so I bought the $5.00 moleskin from Empirepao.com and, to my surprise, the product I got looked exactly the same as what Tintprotector sent me. Thats my experience.

Rolan

Goo Gone will not harm the tint at all. It is citrus based.

You need to make sure the moleskin is not at the edge of the weather strip.

There needs to be some hard plastic still showing on the weather strip.

That is the key. My TL has been going strong on the same moleskin for almost 5 years now.

well I followed your instructions to the "T" so I don't know what else could be the problem. I might just pull it off.

I just say "WHAT DID YOU DO?" when people ask about my scratched tint. I joined Acurazine a month after I had my car tinted.

I would, to be on the safe side. You risk scratches if you don't.

well which way did you guys install it cause the instructions say either leave as one strip and cover both seals or split the strip in half which is what I did so maybe that technique was the wrong way I don't know.

Hey whats up,

Ok, heres my . I recently intalled the moleskin (for the third time) and I decided to do the single strip install. Did this about two weeks ago and I have had no glue streaking yet. The last two installs I split the two strips in half and I was looking into the streaking glue problem and I noticed the bottom seal would fold down when I rolled down my window. Its been only two weeks but its wroking fine for me. for now... you can buy the molesking form www.empirepao.com for only 5 bucs so I think its worth a try.

I will keep you updatd if this changes.

Peace.

I had streaking as well. Used Goo be Gone to get rid of it with no adverse effect to the tint. Realized it was on the first window I did where I didn't cut the moleskin as well. Bought some more and replaced that one. I also learned to give it a few days before lowering the windows. I live in Florida so it gets pretty hot.

Does anyone know where in Oregon you can have moleskin installed, everyones stories about glue streaks and taking off the door panels, and the moleskin not sticking scares me so I would rather have an experienced tinter install it and back it up with a warranty, my tint needs replaced right now because of scratches so do I have it installed at time of tint re-do, before or after, why did Acura make the f***ing windows like this any way, I mean WTF, rubber on the interior of the window????

acura did this to seal out road noise. if you're in md, I can assist with removing the door panels and applying the moleskin. the only cutting of the moleskin I did was to size it for length. You should be wrapping the moleskin strip completely around each blade. I'm pretty sure that people arent applying it right and therefore getting the glue streaks. if you're cutting the skin in half and applying it to each side of the rubber blade then yes, you're probably going to get glue streaks.

Moleskin- any issues after its installed

Hi Guys - anybody experience issues after the moleskin is installed? The place that was going to do my tint said that they would have to remove a rubber to install the moleskin, which got me thinking if its necessary and if it is, are there issues with noise etc....

tnx.

I installed tint on my TL two weeks ago and not a single problem without moleskin being installed. No streaks, no scratches, etc.
