Every performance mod that I can get my hands on except pro cats and supercharger, aspec body kit, smoked lights, RSB and bushings, upgraded speakers, and navigation hacks. Shopping for coilovers/lowering springs then I think I will be complete! riiiiiiiiight!

I A-Spec'd my TL minus steering wheel and wheels--used the RonJon Devotions.
I am all for modding my cars. I would never have discovered modding if I hadn't discovered Acurazine. Damn you all!

How do I feel about modding my 2006 TL... ok, you asked.
As you see, my age is 46, so I am not the typical modding type of person. I never did anything...Nothing... to my previous daily driver, a 1992 Acura Legend 2-door. I didn’t even change my own oil, but like the car shop do it.
Circumstances dictated another car. So, I get a new 2006 TL unexpectedly.
Had ZERO intentions of modifying the new TL. But, it was not too long before that modding “slippery slope” started dragging me downhill !!!!!!
My modding begin without me realizing what had happened to me. Often, you can be bitten by the modding bug without knowing it.
Without me knowing, the modding bug first bitten me when I decided to get different tires. I was one of the first to get wide 255/40-17 tires for my oem rims. You can see my tire story here
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135535
From the first day that I got my new TL, I did know that those oem size tires “had to go”. I hated the way the oem tire size made the car look. After getting the new tires, I noticed a performance boost (easier braking, easier accelerating, better handling). So, without me intending to mod my car, it did have increased performance from the new tire size. I quickly became hooked. I started to wonder what else I could improve upon.
Next mod was more out of necessity. Again, I modded the car without the explicit intentions of modding it. I learned the hard way how sensitive the TL (or should I say, the J32 engine) is to excessive ambient temps. To remedy the flat engine response once the car became heat soaked, I removed the under hood plastic panels (ground effects panels under the engine too) to decrease the ambient temps under the hood. This was during the summertime in Texas. By the way, this did increase performance.
Next mod without me realizing that it was a mod was the mid-muffler removal. I did the mod-muff delete because I wanted the car to sound like it had a bit more balls to it. So, the slippery-slope continued along with the addiction. What else can I do to make this TL be the perfect car within my eyes ?
By the way, you can read more about the mid-muff delete here

Next was some weight reduction. And, this too was by accecident. I removed some items on the car that I disliked. I was not expecting a performance boost. But, to my amazement, I did notice the increased performance. So, I began my quest to reduce weight for the sake of performance. I will not go into this for fear of ridicule. But, I will tell you that it has increase my handling, braking, and acceleration MORE THAN ANY OTHER MOD. Yea, baby !!!! This car is really turning into something now !!!! So, the modding slippery slope began to really get a hold of me.
By now, I am fully aware that I am seeking more performance. But, the addiction is too strong and I gotta follow the urges (even at my age of 46). Next came the AEM CAI. You can see my cai story here
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142951
During the cai installation, I also bypassed the coolant line to throttle body. You can see that story here
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142842
Next was the UR Pulley. This required some thinking. Does it or does it not harm the engine.. that was the big question. I was satisfied enough after learning that the Second Generation guys have no problems after running the pulley for a long time. Plus, that darn addiction thing again… can’t resist those urges.
By now, I am satisfied with the car. The car is a different automobile compared to the car that I drove off of the dealership lot. My car now feels like it has a big-block engine under the hood. No longer does it seem like a sewing machine that needs to drop down two gears before gaining speed like when it was stock. I easily gain speed with no downshifts at all from the auto (huge bottom end torque plus weight reduction).
But, there were still a few details to be ironed out for a little more performance. That darn addiction thing again. Next mod was to insulate my cai. This does help. You can see more of the insulating story here

Next mod was another weight reduction mod. Damn !!!! The first time I drove the car after this mod and got into the throttle just modestly, and damn…. News flash to the brain…”damn, it never pulled like this before !!!!!” Huge grin on my face. Also, once I get on the freeway on this same morning, another “damn….. it never handle like this before.” Along my daily commute (err, daily race track and test track if traffic is light enough), I sense the car saying “give me more, I can handle it.” So, I take this curve in the freeway at 100 mph with complete confidence. Damn it handle so much better now with this last round of weight reduction.
So that brings us to current day. The only thing left that I plan to mod is to get a lightweight battery (Braille or Hawker Odyssey).
I am so happy that I made this to be the perfect car in my eyes. After owning this car for nearly a year and 12,000 miles, I still get an adrenalin rush driving it. I look forward to every morning and every afternoon for my daily commute to drive my creation… it is such a rush and fills me with pride that it was my mods that did the trick….my creation

Hey Inaccurate, I liked your post. I am 36 and had never done anything to any of my former cars. Like you, it all started with one small mod, this forum, and then I was hooked.
I'm interested in what you did for weight reduction. My main weight loss was in removing the spare tire from the trunk and from my body (I lost about 25 pounds).
I'd like to lose more off the car. Do you have any other weight reduction suggestions?

I have no intentions of modding this car. I needed a car to get me from work to home with a bit of style and comfort. I drive 2500 miles a month and it beats doing that in my lowered RSX-S or Prelude. The TL fit the package.
This is my 5th Honda and three that I owned before were modded and tracked. I bought this car to get out of the scene and I'm holding up. I even bought a 5AT to help discourage me from modding.

Thanks, neuronbob. I have done that, too. My Sport Edition E1s are 18" and at about 25 pounds each are slightly lighter than the stock 17s. I'm not sure about the tires, but I like the Pirelli PZero Neros so much.
