Modded owner chime in

Heres a good question for you modded folks... How long did you have your 3gs before you started modding? And do any of you feel like you modded too quickly? Do any of you get bored with the look of your cars?

First mod was within two weeks of getting the car... (Leds)
Second mod was the next week (fogs)
Travelled for a month...
Bebadged and removed bsm's within the next week.
Aspec kit the week after... That was this week.

I think i bought the car already with mods in mind, so i didn't waste any time. No regrets.

wat kind of modding are you talking about? performance or appearance....big or small mods???

I tinted my window the following weekend after i got the car, LEDs two weeks after.... Sidemarkers the next month....

I have had my 3G TL for nearly 4 months, i think the only sedan out there that looks better than mine on the road is the TL-S....(does Panamera count????...that thing turns me head BIG TIME)

i have seen people drove their used/new car straight to a body shop for new coilover, bodykits and even turbo right after they purchased the car on the same day!!! Is that too quick? I dunno~~~

within the first two weeks i put on: tints 35%, debadged, roof spoiler, and trunk lip, black lugs.
on the way are: yellow fog tints, and im debating on a decent priced bigger mod (j pipe or a-spec front lip )

I do the same thing with every car i've owned and plan to own

the 3 necessities

paint must be in good health (kind of a given for most if not all people) DROP!!! TINT!!! the top 3 things that cause significant difference in looks aside from wheels, but seeing that there are so very limited wheel choices to clear the brembos on the TL i'm holding that off until i finish everything else... unless someone care to chime to my post in the wheels sub forum

I had my car tinted within 24 hours of ownership. It only had 26 miles on the clock. Four months later I lowered it.

WAHAHAHA that long ass list always gets me .

I got my car from my brother, who drove it for 4 years BONE STOCK (not even tints!). I recently discovered AZ for the purpose of modding...

I guess my brother wasn't too much of a car enthusiast, but enough to buy the sweetest ride in his budget.

mornin' everybody.

i've owned the car about a year and 1/2 and here's what i've done.

2007 Acura TL Type-S

-19x9.5" Forgestar F14 wheels in gunmetal (aggresive offsets)
-Megan coilovers
-Drilled and slotted front and rear rotors
-RV6 V3 Pre-cat delets
-RV6 V3 J-pipe
-XLR8 Quad exhaust system
-AEM V2 Cold Air Intake
-UR Lightweight Pulley
-J&R Programmable ECU
-Ingalls front and rear camber kit
-Illuminated WHITE Door Sills
-Hyper white 5k interior lighting
-Custom mounted Valentine One radar detector w/ concealed display
-Carbon Fiber wrapped 2 tone interior
-DVD player custom mounted under navigation screen
-JL 12w6 Subwoofer with JL 500/1 amp
-Massive CK6 front components/tweeters powered by JL 300/2 amp
-VIS carbon fiber hood
-Aspec Type-S Body Kit
-Black chrome front and rear "A" acura emblems
-front grill wrapped in glossy black 3M vinyl
-Custom headlights with 5k white angel eyes and 5k white LED strip. Painted glossy black with Carbon Fiber inlays. Custom switches inside vehicle to operate separate lights.
-Custom Tail lights painted glossy black with carbon fiber inlays.
-DDM tuning 5k HID fog lights
-5k HID reverse lights w/ tailgaiter switch under steering column
-Rear brake light decal custom cut
-20% 3M tint
-Roof Spoiler
-Carbon fiber insert on front bumper that spells A C U R A
-Sharksfin XM antenna on roof

i'm sure i'm leaving out a few things, that's all i can think of so far. first thing i did was get it tinted the same day i bought it...then i found acurazine, and well...we all know what happens then. i originally had no real intention of modifying this car to the level that i have so far. BUT...you only live once! i've had a blast doing all of this!

i think i have modded pretty quickly, but it doesn't deter me or make me bored with the car. i plan on owning this car until it blows up...and i'm having as much fun as i can on the way there. the 3G TL is timeless IMO...it will always look good, whether it be bone stock or modded to the max.

I had my first mod ordered a month after I got the car, but then I got in an accident so I had to wait 2 more weeks while everything was getting fixed, so I'll say 6 weeks before I did my first mod. I've been pretty steady at a mod every 6 weeks or so since then, which I just realized it's about time for me to do another one, good thing I have a few things in the garage to do as soon as I get a nice weekend weather wise.

well it depend if people got money to play with, example if I got a TL-S I will be broke as hell so there is no mod on my list except for a fog light HID. Meanwhile other member might slap on A-spec lip kit, suspension, wheels, tinted window, exhaust, intake etc.

hmmm...day 2 proper detail and added roof rack, month 4 added CAI, 1 yr added new rims and tires....a very LONG HIATUS (pursuing other interests and paying the car off). yr 5 replaced first set of rims by default b/c of tire shop morons (FREE upgrade and replaced rims), yr 6 (oh boy...hanging out on AZ a little more)-->Aspec suspension, RSB, tint, LEDs (basic interior, plate lights, and reverse lights) and a major case of Obsessive Compulsive Detailing (OCD), yr 7...well that's a work in progress.

careful OP....this place is a serious money pit.

I got my TL in January of 2011. Within the first two weeks of buying it, I already got the A-spec kit installed and had some scratches and stuff fixed along with new Type-S tail lights.

Then roof spoiler, decklid spoiler, and tint within the first month. Also got the first aftermarket set of rims but didnt like them and resold them really quickly.

Then I went to maintenance, did Redline ATF, 3rd/4th switches change, trans filter change, oil change, new shocks and struts, alignment....couple other things like that. Also covered up the wood grain interior with Carbon Di-Noc and got window visors.

3-4 months later, got in an accident and did the front end type-S conversion with modded headlghts, OEM fogs, HIDs, Type-S bumper and A-spec kit. Also got the Fujita intake and Type-S wheels and rear 20mm spacers. I threw in an RHo plate because i personally like it. I threw in full LEDs somewhere around this point as well.

Then in October I got the RV6 V3 Jpipe as a birthday gift from me to me.

Lastly just a month ago I got rear ended and used the insurance money to get a type-s rear bumper, aspec, and exhaust.

Thats just about a year's worth of mods. It's almost where i want it but I'm gathering parts and will be posting a major update on my progress thread in a couple weeks. It will be a mix of maintenance and some cosmetic mods.

oh i didn't include maintenance...but that's not really considered a mod. for the most part basic maintainence all done at the dealer (the other money pit-i dont' mind...they are the only ones that actually treat me and my car very well, so i'll pay the premium).

I have my 3G TL for 1 year and a month now. And yes, I do get bored with the way mines look like from time to time. But I will be switching a few things up when I have the funds.

My list:
-Viper 5901 alarm/starter. (the day after I got the car)
-ASA V2 18X8 +27. (transferred over from my old car)
-3,000K yellow Hids fog lights.
-Full A-spec lip kit. (my favorite)
-Weathertech clear license plate frame. (black)
-50% nano ceramic tint. (looks darker than 50%)
-Unique style racing side markers.
-I-simple.
-HT spec type 2 coilovers.
-Oem Type S tail lights.
-De-badged rear and plastic dip the Acura emblem. (sexy!)
-Ebay roof spoiler.
-Painted brake calipers. (black)
-Duralast Gold C-max brake pads.
-K&N drop in air filter.
-Interstate Mega Tron plus battery.
-Progress adjustable RSB.
-Ingalls front/rear end links.

I'm sure you guys seen my car before, nothing special:

Tinted my windows about 2 months in. Replaced damaged side skirts with Type S ones at about 3 months. That's about it.
