Acura AT's don't have a great rep after the 2G fiasco. I wouldn't put anything in except the recommended Honda ATF.

Just in case ... know what I mean?

stick with the honda fluid, if you use any aftermarket fluid and your auto trans fails, acura can blame the fluid for not being upto spec for the failure...

I was reading the bottle of the mobil 1 atf not too long ago(yesterday at work) and i couldnt find "ATF Z1" compatible on the bottle. so i would not recommend using it on our tranny. Like the other guys have said, stick with OEM honda or go with a redline or royal purple. Amsoil also make an ATF that is compatible.

I just checked out Mobil's website, and it does list Honda ATF Z1, except in situations utilizing CVTs

I was in one of the friendly auto parts places the other day, and I saw this on the back of the bottle as well. I chose not to replace mine with the Mobil product specifically b/c of warranty issues. Once my 07 is out of warranty, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable changing over.

Yeah its still under warranty and Mobil 1 meets the requirements, so it still under warranty. I already did the 8 quarts out and the new 8 quarts in. It seems to work just fine if not better, but i dont know for sure yet as i only drove it 2 miles home. Im glad i got it changed, the old stuff @ 20k miles wasnt even red looking in color.

I was looking at this as well. How much did you get the Mobil 1 ATF for?

it wasnt cheap it was about 7.60 a quart time 9 but the guy at the oil change place did a cash job for me with there brand new (few months old) tranny fluid pump for 40 (it was his lask week I'm happy its in, even at 20k miles the tranny oil wasnt red in color.

Make sure you find the bottles that say "new formula" Because i bought 9 bottles but 3 of them didnt say "new formula" The ones that say "new formual" say on the back that they do meet the ATF Z1 but the bottle looked the same, but on the back of the bottles that didnt say "new formula" it didnt list meeting the "ATF Z1" so i returned those 3 and got all the same... Glad i looked closly at that.

So far it the car seems to run great! i dont believe i notice the "real difference" but its nice knowing i got all the old tranny fluid out and put in mobil 1 full synethic with a piece of mind.

I am a damn maverick.....

I use Mobil 1 ATF. I did a 4-time flush initially. I do a single flush (drain and refill with 3 qts) everytime I do an engine oil change (which is every 3000 miles). Yea, I change my Mobil 1 engine oil every 3000....What part of maverick did you not understand ?

I always hated how the oem TL shifted.
That initial 4-time flush with Mobil 1 ATF fixed that damn problem. Had nice, quick, crispy shifts thereafter. I wasn't gonna win many stoplight drag races with that oem mussy shift. Mobil 1 gave me quick shifts that helps with those stoplight grudge matches.

Before going to the Mobil 1 ATF, I did extensive researching on Bob Is The Oil Guy website. Everyone (in the know) agreed that Mobil 1 ATF (Multi Vehicle Formula) was ok as a replacement for the Honda Z1 ATF.

My 2006 TL had just 14,000 miles when I made the switch to the Mobil 1 ATF. I now have 38,000 miles. It has been 24,000 miles since I switched to the Mobil 1 ATF. Never had a problem. Still have firm, quick shifts.

Oops, almost forgot to add.... I use Mobil 1 ATF for the wife's 2003 RL too. I do a single flush (drain and refill with 3 qts) every engine oil change too for her RL. She has driven 35,000 miles using the Mobil 1 ATF in her RL with ZERO problems.

the TL's trans system will only let out 3 quarts at a time since the fluid is in the torque converter and other parts of the transmission.

As much as I love aftermarket fluids, for auto tranny fluids I only trust OEM stuff. There are way too many complicated parts in ATs and OEM fluids are designed to work perfectly with those parts. Engine oil, diff fluids, coolant, etc. in my opinion are fine to interchange with OEM/aftermarket... transmissions are way too expensive to not use the lubricants that the factory recommends.

When I made the initiail changeover to the M1ATF, I did
* a drain-n-refill using 3 quarts
* drive for 10 minutes
* a drain-n-refill using 3 quarts
* drive for 10 minutes
* a drain-n-refill using 3 quarts
* drive for 10 minutes
* a drain-n-refill using 3 quarts

However, only three (I did 4) drain-n-refill are needed for the initial changeover. But, my saying is "anything worth doing is worth over-doing !"

After this initial changeover, I then did (and still do) a single drain-n-refill using 3 quarts everytime I do an engine oil change. The car is jacked-up already, and I am under there all ready...

I recommend the M1ATF if you want quicker, firmer shifts.

Quote: imho you are wasting ur time with nore expensive atf....it won't solve the trans problems
Speaking just for myself, I use the M1ATF for the quicker, firmer shifts.

Innacurate, One More Thing.....
Using the Honda ATF, there is a slight tranny whine. Do you notice the same whine with the Mobile 1 ATF ?

I did not notice any change in the trans noise. I never percieved my trans to have a whine either before or after the switch to the M1ATF. At the time that I made to switch to M1ATF, I had several mods (cai, third cat delete, removed insulation) that made my cabin less quite than oem. So, it is possible that I didn't notice any whine because of the less quite interior.

Inaccurate. Could I just do drain-refil with 3qts drive for 10 min and drain-refil and finished? will that be ok. I think buying 12 qts at $7-9 is a little pricy lol.

I see no harm in doing just two drain/refills. As money becomes more available, you can get another one or two drain/refills done later.

If you are doing the switch to M1ATF to get the quicker, firmer shifts, then two drain/refills will get you mostly there. I remember that I noticed the biggest difference in my shifts (becoming quicker and firmer) after the 2nd drain/refill.

Plus, if I recall correctly, there is no compatiabliity problems with having a mixture of Z1 and M1ATF.
