The million dollar headlight

My angel eyes came in today. YAY! Now just have to find some ZKW lenses. Who would have thought that every junk yard in the chicago land area already have their 2004-2005 bmw projectors already stripped from the cars. Jeez.
Do you guys think it is necessary to purchase that honda bond stuff? or the liquid sealant thing someone posted (purchased at a bike/motorcycle shop or something).

Good question about sealant. Rocky, how'd you guys reseal? I have the Nissan butyl rubber sealant I plan to use.
#89
rocky used the nissan sealant.. seems to be working great. it's actually kinda cool cause it's this elastic rubber compound.. and it's good to use forever cause it stretches endlessly... haha and when you place it around where the plastic part of the headlight needs to be re-attached to the back, when heated it melts and creates a firm connection.
i washed my car twice already since i got back from school and no condensation. woot!

Nissan Butyl Rubber for sure! I used it on both our headlights. I use silicone only lightly on the outside as an additional unecessary measure. If you ask me this should be the only way to reseal your lights after you open them. Why?
1) It is the same stuff that was used to seal the lights in the 1st place
2) It melts at the same 200 degrees. As it becomes semi-solid it can reach all areas of the points of contact. As you compress the headlight to appoximate the 2 parts the rubber spreads evenly. This ensures less chance for leaks. The rubber cools and resumes solid consistency.
3) If you ever have to reopen your headlights for any reason it is MUCH easier.
4) One roll of Butyl Rubber is enough to do at least 4 sets of headlights! You can stretch the stuff to a thin string.
The only cons against the rubber is that it is hard to find, more expensive and if you are redoing your lights the rubber can become excessive and you may have to remove some. You don't want to get this gooey stuff where it dosen't belong. It's worse than tar!
I saw the butyl rubber online for like $20. I needed it in 2 days. I called around. I ordered it through a local Nissan dealer for $1 more. I got it faster with a return policy.

wait, I just realized, that is still a 999k headlight. to be a million-dollar, the silver thingy in front of the turn signal has to be painted either blak or body colour.
i know im picky, but if i ever get a TL that is the one reason i would not black out the headlights. I'm sorry but i hate the look with that silver thing. it totally kills it.
anybody else feel that way?

it kills the whole "blacked out" look IMO. never seen it in person though, maybe that has something to do with it?
does it tend to look better in person than in the photos?
If i ever get a TL, heres what I would put:
Blacked out headlights (including silver strip)
Tein SS
Aspec Kit
rear trunk lip spoiler
Type-S or blacked out tails
debadged
AEM CAI
some sort of black rim with a chrome lip, 19s
blacked out grille...or maybe even take out the A and the bar altogether.
and whatever else you guys force me to do. lol
EDIT: and of course, the 999k headlight

Haha, that list is pretty much identical to mine.. not one thing i'd change on that list.
but each person has his or her own liking.
it's like a steak, some like it rare, some like it medium, and some like it well done.
i like mine with the silver strip, and the blacked out look is still clearly visible.
besides, you don't even notice the chrome strip when the amber is still in on a stock headlight.. the chrome strip probably gives it more contrast to notice the black. You can't say that the black "isn't visible" with it.

So if I went to a nissan dealership and asked the parts department, they'll know what this butyl strip thing is?
I for one like the chrome strip a lot, expecially on my silver car.

I entertained completely removing the silver bar. Here's a mockup using a busted headlight:
I elected to keep the bar in place for 2 reasons... One, it matched my custom chrome grill trim "to be photographed and disclosed when the headlights are done", and two, because the bar partially covers the LED/bulb. That would be a glaring eyesore sticking through the hole without the bar hiding it.
Leedogg had his headlights custom painted NBP, to include the chrome bar. He's got a lots of pics for your review.

Like I said I had my strip and bezel in Gunmetal thinking it would be a good look with my anthracite.
It turned out great, but I painted it back to chrome now. I found the contrast is a better look. The strip throws in an interesting complex 3D detail to the headlight, I like it. If the theme on your car is to do a totally toned down, racy, blacked out or shaved emblem look sparing the details, then I agree the chrome strip is out of place. My car has a splash of bling here and there and it just goes just right. And like Kennedy said it distracts your view from the bulb. It's a little naked without it.
Nissan dealers will NOT know what you are talking about when you ask for the butyl rubber. You need that part number Kennedy just put up. Thanks Kennedy.

I really do have to see it in person before making my final decision. the 3D look must be pretty nice.

Yes his 6000ks are the best match with the angel-eyes. Mine are 8000ks so they are more blue. Advantage of 6000ks are a good match. Advantage of the 8000ks are a better match with the switchbacks and also a little contrast so the angel-eyes are noticable even with the headlights on. Will post pics by next week when they are back on the car.

HAHA lenjaiah, BK is the place to meet huh? I always think of that shopping plaza when I think of Douglaston. Maybe all 3 of us could meet up? My headlights are on my car now. Angel-eyes working A-OK. My bumper will be on tomorrow. Hooking up the subs too! I'll take pics when I'm all done.
I'm coming down Friday to meet up w/some friends in Queens. I want my car all done by then. I won't finish my HID fogs and headrest LCDs but you will see everything else. You will see 2 cars with angel-eyes at ya!!

LOL
Mine = fail compared to your's.
You suck for being better at that than my friend, cuz you're not here in Vancouver to help a brother out! I still haven't had the time to fix my left headlight. One side is still left non de-reflectorized.

lol. I actually looked at your pics for ideas. What's wrong with your lights? I thought it came out OK. What do you mean by "non-dereflectorized"? To me that is deciphered to say the white/orange lens is still in there? You mean he opened the headlight without clearing/blacking them?? That would have been just another 10 min. of work. When you have that headlight open it's worth it to do everything you can so you don't have to go through all that again.

No, I had my first set of headlights de-reflectorized.
And I got in an accident recently, got a new left headlight. So now the left headlight has the orange reflector, and the right doesn't. Two mask TL.

I know a lot people are going to say that. I thought the same thing when I 1st thought of this mod but this is much whiter and brighter and just 2 rings. It really dosen't have even 2% resemblance to a BMW IMO.
My car is all put together and all the exterior mods are done!!! Guys I'll be in Queens today but I don't think you guys will be around in the daytime. If you're around, you know my #!

If they can do it, why cant you?? To each his own I guess!! Happy modding!

haha seriously, 2 million BUCKS.
good thing i cleaned the bird sh*t off my hood with the windshield wiper fluid... i covered those two holes with napkins, *spray spray* then took the napkins off and wiped that sh*t off!
if i hadn't done that i would've had a two tone brown black TL.
