Miles Per tank
Miles Per tank
How can i improve this I always set it usually i average around 300 town.....but recently past few fills up been going around 270 and this last fill up was 240....my driving style is normal i dont slam the gas or anything like that.....my tires in the front are not the best but i dont understand this...psi for tires is around 30-32
If you haven't changed anything you've got a tuning issue. How many miles? Due for a tuneup...help us out here with all pertinent information. Calculate out your actual gas mileage. Or use you MID display.

miles per tank means nothing.it is a mere estimate based on your driving style and conditions.
you're better off tracking your MPGs and avg MPH if you want to monitor your fuel consumption.
BTW OEM PSI for AT TLs on stockies is 32psi. MT TLs on stockies is 35/32 psi (fr/bk). with optional 18" Aspecs with HPT is 39/36 psi.
PSI can be variable based on the tires you are running on your car and your preferences.

Yeah i live in the NorthEast.....I bought the car with 32k miles or so on it has 50k now (08 TL)...I haven't done any tune ups besides oil changes....changed air filter..cause i know that helps...... But maybe the cold cause recently one of the tire pressure gauges has been going off although psi is fine.
I havent changed type of gas at all...i may tonight though just to see......is there any tune ups i should do?
Ok ill increase PSI a bit...the tires are the ones that came with the car they are in good shape except the front ones are worn pretty bad on the outer edges...not sure why or how? i think from spinning them a bit when i first got the car (wasnt use to HP)
Ill check back in tonight with with the MPG Trip/MPH avg etc...cause i believe i did set it for this tank or the tank prior..
Should i do one of those fuel cleaners you put in with your gas?
Nothing new has been added to the car. car and trunk basically empty

Are you auto? And that sounds fairly accurate, your fuel gauge only measures a bit under 14 gal of your 17 gal fuel tank capacity. I generally take it easy, shifting before 2.5k or so around town. So that likely has alot to do with it. If you're driving from stoplight to stoplight almost all the time, your mileage seems in line with what it should be if you accelerate more aggressively than I tend to and our tank capacity.

I think it's just the brutal cold. I would increase your tire pressure. I usually run 34 with N2. Most of my miles are highway but I have noticed that I have dipped from about 29 mpg to about 27-27.5 mpg in the last month or so. Nothing changed on my end either.
Take your car out for a nice highway drive and let us know what the mpg is.

agree.
if you have a navi, start the car, get the seat belt on, wait the 20 seconds or so for the nag screen to come on and then drive the car to get it up to operating temp.
if you don't have a navi, get the seat belt on, turn the butt warmer on, get comfy and then drive.
"warming the car up" in today's cars is a waste of time and gas.

you're fine. this is normal. if you avg less than 25 mph (so called "local" or "city driving") it's normal to get around 18-19mpg.
excessive outer edge wear is either from cornering hard or underinflated tires. your baseline PSI should be COLD tire pressure= car sitting first thing before driving. it will increase as you drive the car and vary in upwards of 4 psi over the course of a day. as long as your COLD tire pressure is within spec you will be fine and your MPGs will be where they should be (it'll help the tires wear properly as well).

Ok so just want to make sure I understand you, I want to check PSI first thing before i drive the car and that PSI should be around 32PSI...they aren't under inflated i know that cause usually when i check psi first thing its in the 30's
Personally I set mine at about 34 and since I am using Nitrogen it does not seem to swing as much. Usually it will go up 2-3 and down 2-3.
Mine does as well. I'm sure most of us in the NE will say the same thing. The thing is to not drive it hard until it is warmed up. I keep it under 4000 RPMs until it gets warm. Warming it up for 10 minutes is just a waste of gas IMO.
It's more like 1-1.5 gallons left in your tank when it reaches E, but you'll only be able to squeeze out another gallon if your're lucky before the car starts to die.
My guess is your commute changed in some way that caused the MPH value to drop.

keep in mind the PSI will drop or rise 1psi per 10*F temp change. so if it's unusually cold (20-30's) and you set your cold tire pressure when it was 50* out, then your psi will be 2-3 psi less. as the weather warms up the cold tire pressure will rise and should be adjusted accordingly.
i typically keep the TL's psi at 38/35 (based on my set up) and that my OEM specs (6MT) are 35/32 on stockies. i keep the MDX around 34 psi (OEM is 32psi). again these are based on my personal preferences and driving style.
i'm sure your MPGs are normal given the conditions. the only time to be concerned is if they suddenly drop off (like 5 mpg) given all the same driving/idling conditions.

^^driving conservatively will get the car up to operating temperature faster vs sitting idle for 5 minutes. sit for a minute if you want and it's 10* out, but sitting for 5-10 minutes is a waste.
i usually always wait for the nag screen on the navi before i take off driving whether it's first thing in the AM or running errands.

wah wah wah....wear more clothes. by the time the seats warm up the engine will warm up then 5 minutes later the heat will actually be blowing out of the vents. i'll be the first one to say how much i detest being cold.
Winter blended fuels (typically have ethanol in them which our motors dont like) and the cold will most certainly drop your mpg. Also many let their car idle/warm up longer in the winter/cold months which will also reduce their mpg. Keeping tires up to proper psi will help as when its cold they loose psi.
