Metallic vs. Non-metallic tint
I talked with a guy about putting some new tint on my 06 TL w/ Navi, and he told me that if it has a Navi system in it you should use the non-metallic tint like Mercedes uses on their cars. It's the really nice light blue tint.
Anyone ever heard of this before? He said that metallic tints could interfere with the Navi's system and that I would have to sign a special form that stated that I knew that it could harm the Navi system
Of course, that tint is over $500 - but it would look sooooo nice on a blue one...

If you have navi don't get metallic tint, it will throw off the gps. There are many options when it comes to non-metallic tint that are alot cheaper than $500. Many of us have used Solargaurd NR (non-reflective) and have gotten great results. Solargaurd offers a limited lifetime warranty that covers peeling and fading concearns. I got 7 windows with moleskin on the wipers for $160 including taxes. $500 is outrageous unless it is a titanium or ceramic tint with moleskins, but even thats pricey.

in RI there is one good tint shop and all he uses is metallic. I told him about how nav cars are supposed to use non-metallic. he said he has tinted endless cars with nav, no lie he does brand new cars from the dealers, and it won't be a problem. he guaranteed it so that if he tinted my car and it was a problem, he would give me a full refund. he did the job, came out perfect and the nav is barely off. metallic tint lasts longer and keeps its color longer than ceramic based, which is why he only installs it.
this guy does all bentleys, lambos, porsche, ferraris. Does incredible work, and stands by all of it

It's one of the highly debatable topics. A number of folks have used metallic film with no ill effects and some others have had problems. There are only a few manufacturers of ceramic film; Formula One (Pinnacle) and Huper Optik, both regarded as peformance films and very pricey. Is it worth it, that comes down to a personal decision. One popular option is the CS film by 3M and it was designed for advanced electronics on vehicles. Lifetime warranty, guaranteed not to change colors and inexpensive compared to ceramics. A number of people have this one and they are very satisfied. There are also other films available like Llumar and Madico. You can check out Tint Center as well as the manufacturer's online sites.
