me vs. 03 Max 6spd

One of my best friends just bought an 03 maxima 6speed black. very nice car. I wanna challenge him to take a friendly run. I have beaten 03 and 04 Maxima AT's but I am not too sure what the outcome will be with a 6spd. I will be racing him so please don't say "just race him and find out". What do you guys think the outcome will be?

how much did you get the max AT by? how good of a driver is he? he'll take you from a dig fo sho if he's a good driver. good chance from a roll to i'd suspect.

I have beaten an 04 AT from a dig 0-70 or so by a solid car length and I was still pulling a little. I have beaten a stock TL-S from a roll and a dig so I figured this would be a very close race. I have driven an 03 6spd before and I know they pull really hard, but so does my car. I'll try to go from a roll, from a dig I think I will lose, but actually who cares I want to see what will happen.

My money would be on the Maxima. I, too, have driven a 02-03 Maxima 6MT.. lots of torque steer, but it pulled extremely hard. Here is why I think the Maxima is a sure win:

1. Lighter.
2. Stock for stock, 30hp and 30tq advantage.
3. 6 gears from a more efficient transmission versus a tall-geared 4AT - remember, the 00-03 TL-P was considering a half-second faster due to some minor revisions to the engine and the extra cog in the transmission. A Maxima 6MT should run mid-low 14s without too much trouble stock, while I stock 99 TL ran mid-high 15s. I understand you have mods, but have a hard time believing that you have enough to shave over a second off of the trap times.

yeah he will let me drive his car, no doubt there. he had a 95 M3 years ago and he let me drive that. we will probably swap and run after just feel the differences ourselves. I wish my car was a 6spd.

1. Significantly lighter....300 pounds

I agree 100%

Unless his modded 99 TL runs in the mid-low 14's, and assuming his boy knows how to drive, I say he doesn't have much of a chance.

I would say the Maxima too. I had an '02 Maxima 6MT (black too by the way) before getting my current car: '05 TL 6MT. There have many that say Nissan underated that engine since it seems to have gobs of power. I certainly feels faster than my TL.

I had a 03 HSLD 6-speed before the TL and I would have to say the Max will win.

well we didn't race, YET, but I did get to drive his car and it pulls so easily it is a big difference from my car. low end power is right there, just like a V8 and the mid-range is very good. I do feel my car pulls harder up high, but down low it's no contest. I will race him and after driving his car my butt dyno says it will be close, but I have a feeling I will lose, but I really don't care if I do or not. My car has much nicer interior and I like the exterior of both, but the dual exhaust is a very nice aesthetic feature I would miss.

I have a feeling this won't be as close of a race as you think, but it will be an admirable death. The VQ35 is a fine piece of engineering.

my car is faster than a stock tl-s, so are you saying a tl-s vs. 03 max 6spd would get destroyed? I doubt it. It will be close and I very well may beat him, I doubt it now, but his car is not much if any faster than my car. I gotta take it to the track so everyone can see for themselves, but this 99 4spd is no joke.

he'd be a good match for me(TLS, ct headers, icebox) assuming he can drive, but you'll simply get KILLED. I've seen them at the dragstrip. 14.4 @ 96mph all day long!

I have a 06 TL , i miss the torque and 3.5 motor very much so.

Love the VQ35. Only problem I had with a test drive of an 02 6MT Maxima was that it had so much power the front wheels were overwhelmed.

agreed. maxima was my first car choice before the tl. my only beef was that the tl has a nicer fit and finish. the max is a nice vehicle though. but i will say that i don't so much like the looks of the new one.....just my

I love putting all those 05 maximas, 3.5 altimas, G-35 coup and sedans to shame. I raced a G 35 coup about a week ago and beat him bad. He pulled up to me at the light and asked me what I had in my car, I told him I am stock, but I know how to drive If he doesnt that the whistle sound on my car means a supercharger, than he didnt need to know what I had done.

Not targetting anyone, but in all seriousness. About 3 weeks ago, I came to a stop light behind 2 cars. An old Honda civic hatchback with big exhaust revving against a late 90s eclipse also with a big can exhaust. I sat there behind them watching and thinking to myself... What are these kids doing? Then I thought about our cars or this forum.... A G35c lining up against a Maxima while a C6 Corvette pulls up behind them...
The thoughts going thru my mind watching the civic vs eclipse was probably the same as a corvette driver when seeing G35 vs Maxima

So what's the point of me saying that? This topic reminded me what I saw 3 weeks ago
I might add, the 6MT Maxima will win if he's a good driver and doesn't misshift.

I much rather roll up in a m5 or m3 against a corvette

I don't know about overwhelmed, but tons of torque steer in my buddies car. If I take off full throttle from a stop I get massive torque steer and wheel hop. I do not regularly do this, but maybe 2-3 times. I love the VQ35 it is a great engine, but so is the J32. If I only had a 6spd.
