Mazda RX8...Check

I'm going down the El Camino and I'm stopped in the middle lane at a red light in my 2000TL. To the right of me pulls up a new silver RX8. He looked smug. I put the car into gateshift 1 so I could hold 1st gear in case he wanted to run. The light turned green and both of us took off a little aggressive. Seeing as how we both left the light fast we both eased in some more gas, and at that point it was on. I mashed the throttle and so did he. I jumped up on him by half a car length and held him there. I came up to redline and threw it into second and kept my lead on him until I shut it down at 70. He tried to make an aggresive lane change move after that but a car had turned right in front of him. What was he trying to prove. He already lost. I thought RX8's were fast. Apparently not.

but a well driven RX8 MT should make short work of a TL-P.

Stock, the RX8 has about 17hp less than the FD3S. I personally like the RX8 but just wish it had a slightly better power:weight ratio.....enough to make it an upper 13-sec car.

AT=197HP 9.3 0-60(very slow) MT=237HP 6.7 0-60(pretty quick) I kind of raced a 04 RX8 on rte 4 in Berwick, ME and destroyed him in my 99 tl w/a few mods. He must have been AT cause it was slow. The MT's aren't that fast either compared to what the RX-7 used to be. Sad that Mazda didn't give more grunt.

RX-8's are totally over rated. A Greddy turboed RX-8 show car (MT) has just a 6.4 sec. 0-60 time. R&T's Speed magazine.

Yeah, I think I recall reading that but I dont believe those numbers. Something must be horribly awry when you go FI and effectively show no improvement in performance.

Hello everyone I'm new here and just floating around. My wife and I just bought an 05 Acura TL W/Nav about a month ago. I will be a frequent visitor on here as I am on RX8 Forums. Absolutely love the TL but its mainly for my wife. I own and 2004 Mazda RX8 6 Speed with Touring Package, Appearance Package, Spoiler, and Rotary Accents. I did some searching to as soon as I got on here of my car.

Just to let you since we have both, I've been able to play around with them(well played around with the TL when my wife's not around, lol) and I can tell you for a fact that there's no way my wife's car is going to out do me in straight line, corners or braking. Its just not possible unless one of two things happen:

1). The driver of the Manual RX8 sucks at driving

OR

2). Its an Auto RX8

As for the Greddy Times on the RX8. Who ever owns it can not drive, his Turbo is not tuned right and he has way too much stereo equipment installed. I've read the article and there are guys on the forum including myself that can get better times with a Stock RX8 with 6 Speed Trans.

Here's a Turbo RX8 running a 14.0 at the drag strip: http://www.nemesis8.com/videos/dragstrip%20060805.wmv

By the way the guy in the above video found out had a leak in his turbo. He has since fixed it and will definitely be running into the high 13's!

I hope none of you get the wrong impression from me. I love my wife's car but these are two totally different cars to be comparing.

ccasmoe00 - Welcome to THE TL forum and congratulations on your wife's car purchase.

So, according to your previous post:
1. You are a better driver than the Greddy driver.
According to that article, we all are.

2. Your car can outrun, outhandle, and outbrake an AT TL.
Outrun - maybe, if you get a good jump off the line.
Outhandle - again maybe, if the TL has the stock Touranzas.
Outbrake - yes, I'll give you that. The RX-8 has better brakes and less weight.

3. You have not seen a MT TL in action.
Limited slip diff., summer tires, 6 speeds and Brembo brakes up front make a world of difference.

So, when are we getting together to check the rides ???

I'm pretty sure I can take you on pretty much all of them. I consider myself a very good driver, if I must say so myself. ;-) You may stay up with me but as far as the handling and braking, no sir your not going to keep up with me. Sorry but Remember you have FWD your going to be spinning wheels the whole way down if you do any kind of clutch drop, lol. Don't forget I have driven my wife's car plenty of time already. To tell you the truth in a corner I get kinda scared, it feels like it wants to slip on me and send me into the woods. Maybe I'm too use of the RX8. By the way, I'm not trying to bash the TL, its a great Performance Luxury Car. But its not going to out perform an 6 Speed RX8!

Oh by the way, how the hell to you all post pics on here? I would like to show you all the two cars. I hope you dont have to link them, that would suck!

As for meeting up, looks like your close to me. Do you guys have any meets?

Oh just to let you all know, there are too many people buying the RX8 that have no idea how to drive it. It needs High RPMS baby! LOL

Oh, I'll be back with some more clips of an RX8 on the Track!(Mind you that these are amateurs driving too)

Well, really ??? *** This is turning into a very interesting match. *** You should tell that to the Z06 owner who ran off track at VIR trying to out-brake me on turn 1. BTW, it was on a Mazdadrivers event in June.

No, but my wife got a new MPV 3 weeks ago and the salesman told me to go and test one when I bring the Minivan for the first oil change.

I also wanna try a Mazdaspeed Miata or a 2006 model.

I'm thinking about test driving the new Mazdaspeed 6 coming out. AWD 274HP and 280lbs Torque. Plus a nice Turbo to throw in! LOL Should be a nice ride, dont know too much about it though. But I think only Mazda Speed Dealership will be getting them.

Im sure the Rx-8 will out handle(RWD)and out brake, but Im not so sure about straight line acceleration against a 6MT TL...it would be close. I only raced 1 rx-8 w/ my IS300 and we were neck and neck...musta been an auto as was my IS. But my 6MT TL would pull hard on my IS, let us know how it goes if you guys meet up.

BTW I do like how the RX-8s look...any plans for a factory Turbo RX-8??

Only if we do a track meet. Otherwise, I don't race. Besides, what's the point of "pulling" on a straight line if the other car can push you everywhere else.

Don't get me wrong guys, like I said before I'm not trying to bash any of you or your cars. I mean, I'm the one that made my wife buy the 05 TL! LOL There are too many people out there that have come up against an RX8 and have either smoke it or stood with it. I'm just letting you know that if I can stay up with and sometimes even beat(because of our light weight) an 350Z, G35 and S2000 you guys must be run ins with Automatic RX8's. Like I've said I have both the TL and the RX8 sitting in my driveway right now and I can pretty much guarantee that I will spank the TL in any category. Now the 6 Speed manual may be able to keep up with me in a straight line but it wont beat me. Add turns to the equation and the TL is going to get spanked.

I've actually drove the TL hard last Saturday(without my wife knowing) and jumped right out of it and into the RX8. There's just too much of a performance difference between the two. (Not so much straight line but everything else).

As for the Factory Turbo, I'm not sure but I've heard of the Mazdaspeed RX8 having a stock Turbo.

Are you serious? I have no clue, I'll have to find one of these magazines that I have that go more into depth as to what Toyota is going to actually do with the new supra. I'll see if I can find it and then scan the page.

Come do that with me! I'll put $1000 down that you cant beat me. All joking aside, stock for stock. No matter if your TL is Stick or Auto. I'll give you my word that I'll put 1000 down and we can go to the drag stick and I'll bet you that I'll beat you. You guys must have runs in's with alot of auto rx8's.

I was hoping he would back up HIS words. By 9/11/05 I'll have my ACT clutch, Flywheel and Pressure Plate installed. Then I'll have to put down $5,000 win I race him. LOL

Hmmm...if I had money like all you other rich folk, I would race you. I have beaten my fair share of 3rd gen TL auto and stick, S2000, G35, and 350z. I always wanted to run up against an RX8 but no one would bite. Are you going to the HIN in AC on 9/10?
