So my previous MT fluid changes I just refilled it till it overflowed. Most honda MTs stated about 2.4 or 2.5 quarts. It'd start overflowing at probably 2.25 quarts (I assume because not all was flushed out). Is the 3g TL MT similar in the sense that you just fill it till it overflows?

Add 2.3 quarts, after you drain it from the bottom.

On this 6MT, there is a tiny little check bolt that you remove. Then you fill the case with MTF (car on level ground) through the upper fill hole until oil starts to dribble out of the service port.

It's all spelled out in your owners manual...

Be sure to replace the washer on the drain bolt. The fill & check bolts aren't as important to replace the seal washer...

^ - Yes, remove the check bolt so you can see how much you have filled it up.

I wouldn't worry so much about the washers though

A drain and fill takes 2.3 U.S. quarts which is 2 quarts, 10 ounces rounded. Make sure your transmission is level by using a carpenter's level. I highly recommend not removing the check (sight) plug to do this. The reason is that it is small and only takes 8.7 ft/lbs of torque. Several people on this site have managed to wrench the head of this bolt off, probably because they didn't use a torque wrench. The drain and fill plug require 29 and 33 ft/lbs respectively. Use new aluminum washers and a torque wrench. If you fill with 2 quarts 10 ounces, you'll be fine.

You won't be able to drain it completely unless you do a removal/rebuild. The amount of fluid for a dry fill is 2.6 U.S. quarts so you're not off that much. I recommend warming the tranny up a little by driving your car around your neighborhood maybe two miles before doing the drain. I would avoid overfilling because you are not gaining anything by doing this. If your tranny is level and you do a good drain (until it drips), adding 2 quarts 10 ounces will not cause oil to spill out of the fill opening. Just make sure you leave some room with your funnel tip in the fill opening to allow air to escape the transmission as you pour in the new juice. And pour slowly.

When your engine's running and the clutch is engaged, gears and shafts are turning in your transmission so fluid is being stirred up and spread to all of the parts, even if your tranny's in neutral. Everything in there is getting an oil bath.

For a simple drain and fill for my 07 Type-S (AUTO), how many quarts of tranny oil should I purchase?
