Making my TL Stand OUT

I have almost had my '04 TL for a year now. I got it in October of '03. Even though it has jusitified my decision, seeing so many TL's on the road now makes me want to add something extra to make it stand out. I see on average, 5-10 cars everyday here in the Long Island, NY area. I have a Silver Satin/Ebony Navi with a rear lid spoiler and body side molding. Aside from tints (which I'm already planning on getting), and excluding body molding, what else can I do to spice up my TL's look? Unique suggestions are welcome.

Last night we pulled up next to an Escalade with those wheels that keep on spinning after the the vehicle comes to a stop. That sure made the Escalade stand out, all right .... my wife and I couldn't help but snicker, even though the Escalade driver was looking at us. Wouldn't recommed that look for a TL, though. I would expect a TL driver, regardless of age, to have more class than the kind of dolt who would pay $50,000 for $20,000 GMC pickup.

But seriously. Dressing up cars is a generational thing, and 20-somethings are certainly entitled to express their nascent individuality through their cars. It's your car and your money, after all. Just keep in mind that a little moderation in dressing up your car can be a good thing. Other people whose opinion you should keep in mind, such as potential employers or in-laws, might not be as impressed with extreme makeovers as your peers might be.

Yeah, I know, that's not the kind of advice you were asking for. Free feel to disregard it if you don't like it.

How about a rear wing the size of a house (heh, heh).

Seriously, one of the best things you could do to individualize your car without making it look like some piece of cheap rice garbage is to install a very high quality exhaust. Go for something with a subtle sound.. now obnoxious or annoying, but subtle and nice. You'll pick up a little performance along with the improved sound as well. Other than that, I would not disturb the outter appearance of the car if I were you. Think of resale when the time comes and the market to whom you're appealing.

Oops, bad English. Make that, "and the market to which you are appealing".

A naked woman lying on your hood would make it stand out.

dwp: what are you comparing the bmw to? when mentioning donkeykang's post, i think he meant no TL has had a sharkfin on before...

with that said... get Underglow www.streetglow.com and get some tubes for underneath your car, im sure you will stand out of every car, every night, pretty much every day, for a long time, until some ricer comes and buzzes by...

I dont think it would look rice... it would only bring out the car better if done corectly, although it might be illegal in your area.

Good point. Anyone driving the new 5er doesn't have to worry about standing out, given the Bangle butt, Dame Edna headlights and shark fin that come as standard equipment. Oh, I take that back as to the Bangle butt, since the next RL will have a modified version of same.

dok101, a rear lip spoiler should differentiate your TL nicely and is subtle.

How 'bout some hydraulics, daytons, and spell out your last name in gothic letters across the rear window. THAT will make your TL stand out. Don't forget the mural on the hood.

Personally, I like stealth mode - but I am also not a 20 year old and do not feel the need to "stand out". I hardly ever see other TL's in my daily drive. If I could make my S200 invisible, I would. My wife does not like me bringing home girlfriends.

To Road Rage;

I, too, like sleepers. When I owned my 1966 SS396/360 L34 Chevelle, I ordered a black vinyl top on the maroon body and kep the Chevy 'baby moons" on the stamped steel wheels. I preferred blowing the doors off of cars which had been customized to look fast.

Shark fin idea sounds nice I would'nt put it on Tonya Lee though not her style but im thinking about changing my paint my Tonya Lee is Silver for now I think a custom paint always makes a car stand out. Sure a some nice shoes (Rims) stand out but do not stand out like custom paint or a really nice wax job (no pun intended)

On another serious note, Have a Landau roof installed and gold or chrome wheelwell fender trim put on. Also a maatching gold chain link liscence plate frame on the front and rear would be NICE!!!!

One very nice mod I saw here was someone blacked out part(s) of the front silver grill border. This appeared, to me, very calssy and slick. I was thinking instead of "black", one could use identical exterior body paint as well.

If anyone here has seen this post, and pic, would you mind posting it, or a link?

Later, gotta go, Hurricane Frances is kickin our butts here...

The underbody kit made mine look like a completely different car.
