Maintenance Schedule
Maintenance Schedule
I have an 04 TL. I'd like to know what the recommended maintenance schedule is for the car. Basically I know the computer is programmed with it. But I'd like to know when the A12345 etcs are planning to go off.
Do they ever change the interval or is it just based on mileage? If you're getting 10 MPG because you never leave the red line, will the maintenance occur earlier?
The Service Manual isn't much help. Neither is the user Manual. Sure I could try to line up the 30K, 60,000 numbers, but I'd like a table somewhere that says:
5K : A
10K : A
15K : A
20K : ABCDEFGHIK123456778
25K: Etc.
30K : Etc..
Most of the user manuals and service manuals I’ve seen have this kind of table for the maintenance schedule.
Does this exist somewhere or do you have to Sherlock Holmes it from the user manual?

This is a change that can be hard to adjust to, but my understanding is the MID keeps track of multiple engine and performance inputs and calculates service intervals based on much more than plain mileage.
I've got 29K on my '05 TL and my service intervals average 5200-5700 miles, reflecting my driving pattern. Other than changing the oil filter every oil change, I adhere to the items indicated by the display. Acura is actually a little late to the party on this feature, but it works well and I follow it to the letter, or number.

There is no schedule because you are supposed to use the MID as a guide. You don't have to wait for 0% oil life remaining, and you can change the oil whenever you feel like it should be done, but it is a good indicator of when to change oil and do other maintenance items.
The MID uses engine revolutions and miles driven to compute, so if you stay at the red line it will recommend the oil be changed more often than an average driver.

Cool thanks for the info. What about the air filter, if you're in a really dusty climate, how does the engine know you changed the air filter if it wasn't asking for it? It seems like it will be hard to track if you do something like that before you're told to..

I changed my air filter at 20,000 even though I live in a clean environment, and I usually change my oil at around 20% which is 5,500 miles for me.
I do my own work, so I also rotate the tires when I do the oil change since I have the car off the ground at that time. A little early but it doesn't hurt.
