Maintenance question

Had few questions and figured I'd get a clear cut answer from you guys.

Car is a 2005 TL 6spd currently has 195K miles

I want to go through and do proper maintenance since it is a daily driver. Also what oil and weight do you guys recommend? If it helps I'm in TX so hot weather most of the year.

Full timing belt service was done at the dealership at recommended mileage
Clutch was replaced around 130K at the dealership
Rotors were turned and pads were replaced 160K
Always had synthetic oil used since day 1.

TIA

5W-20 or 5W-30 at best since of high heat. I myself use Mobil 1 but a lot of others swear by Red Line or Amsoil. A good synthetic is a good choice.

Technically by Acura you should be redoing the timing belt every 60K miles after the 105K service. This is a bit excessive, but it's in your manual.

I would go through the car and check & replace if needed most fluids if not done in a while. Brake fluid every 2-3 years is primordial. Inspect tie rods and other steering components and all suspension components.

Thank you.

Is there a site where I can purchase maintenance and upgrade parts for Acura? New to this world, I'm coming from Audi. Is there certain 3rd part brands to stay away from when looking for replacement parts?

TIA

Can't help with upgrade parts as I tend to stick to stock configurations. For upgrades there's plenty of vendors here on the forum.

For regular parts I've always stayed with OE and never had any regrets or thoughts that I've payed too much as there's no shortage of reputable on line places that sell well below Acura list. Shipping is not cheap so I usually think ahead and order enough to do what ever jobs I need to do. Since my wife has a CRV I'll often cross ref Acura to Honda parts and get a whole big box of stuff for maintaining both cars.

Not sure where you are but for me in the northeast Bernardi Honda and Bernardi Acura work really well. I get parts in a day or two and shipping is relatively low because they are in the next state north. I've called them a bunch to verify stock before ordering and they are very good. I've also had to return parts with no issue.

There's also a sponsor of the site Acura Parts | Genuine Acura OEM Parts | Acura Parts Cheap I'd use them if it were not that I have a closer source.

Also see the Vendor Directory - AcuraZine Community - Vendor Directory

Thank you for the info.
Searching online conducted a list of things to replace, adjust, inspect. Let me know if I left anything out.

Replace
*rotors & pads
*all fluids
*brake
*trans
*coolant
*dust & pollen filter
*plugs
*drive belt
*timing belt
*water pump
*motor mount
*trans mount-is this something to do while in there?
*belt rollers
*gaskets & seals- which ones?
**air cleaner element**- what is this?

Adjust
*valves
*parking brake

Inspect
*oil pump-common?
*tie rods
*steering gear box
*suspension
*driveshaft boots
*brake hoses and lines
*fuel lines and connections

Looking to possibly putting on some coilovers and camber kit if recommended. Don't plan on slamming the car.

Other question I had is the motor is healthy but with 200k on it, would be decrease the life if I installed a supercharger? My thinking is yes and to leave it alone but I don't know enough about longevity of these motors and what they can handle.

I wouldn't recommend putting a supercharger on an engine with that much mileage, however, if it were to blow, a replacement is relatively cheap and easy to come by. These engines are literally all over the place and they do last forever if given some basic maintenance.

Will putting a SC on be a problem for your engine? You won't know until you try. I say go for it and have fun

And that list you put up is pretty damn thorough. Some of it seems unnecessary, like replacing the belt rollers. Never heard of anyone doing that, but I could be wrong.

Also, the Bluetooth is known to crap out, as well as the interior button lights. Both are easy to replace, however, the Bluetooth is close to $200 to replace.

^agreed with tacokitteh, some on your list might not be needed to replace.

only replace something if its broken or is a wear item.
if the trans mounts are not broken, it would be a waste of money to replace them.

basically, just inspect things. not necessary to replace unless broken.

as you know superchargers bring heat.
and we all know that heat is the killer of all things mechanical.

you would need sufficient cooling whether it came in software or hardware form.
but it is needed.

the 6MT "sport" TL already is high strung from the factory.

I can only speak about the ones I've replaced on my TL, which is now at 184,000 miles. I've replaced brake fluids, pads, transmission fluid, coolant, timing belt, water pump, motor mounts (including the transmission mount), air filter and a few gaskets.

Here's what I used for each:

Brake fluid: Motul 5.1. Should be done periodically.

Brake pads: Duralast CMAX Gold pads (great pads from AutoZone- they have a killer deal where you buy them and when it's time for new pads, you replace them with the same ones and you get them for absolutely FREE. I haven't had to buy brake pads for the last five years since I started using these, and a lot of people on the forum love them).

Transmission Fluid: Four quarts of Redline Lightweight ATF, four quarts of Redline Racing ATF and one quart of Redline D4 ATF (read Inaccurate's thread HERE to understand the procedure and why you have these specific ATFs used). Do it once and then do a 1x3 drain and fill every oil change and you'll never need a trans fluid flush ever again.

Coolant: Honda Coolant Type-2. Just fill it up to when it's lower than the recommended level.

Timing Bet, water pump, tensioner, etc (all part of the 105k service): Acura OEM.

Motor mounts: All Acura OEM. There are THREE mounts for our TLs- one of them is the transmission mount. Doing it will cost you around ~$800 total, there's no reason to do this unless they are broken.

Air filter: ATP HA-5 charcoal filter. It does a better job than the OEM filter and is cheaper too. Done every 6-9 months.

Gaskets: as needed when doing any of the above items. Acura OEM.

I've done a few other things, but it looks like you've done your research. This forum has all the answers, and great write ups to be able to do it all yourself. That's how I've done it for years with my TL and this forum has yet to steer me wrong when I ask around and follow the guides that have been made by fellow TL owners.

Good luck!

Valve adjustment as needed.
I just did mine today. It's been 50k miles since my last one and it has made a significant difference on the cars drivability.

Thank you guys for the feedback. I also realized that I have few lights out on the buttons are the navi and also on the door (seat selection) Where can I buy replacement of these and if from the online acura dealership does anyone have the part number?

Looking at replacing rotors and pads all the way around and I know someone mentioned autozone pads and I also read up that a lot of members were happy with that. On the rotors is it a waste to do slotted/dimpled? Car won't be tracked but would do it for looks more than anything however if I'll be going through them like no ones business I can stick with blanks.

I went with D/S rotors for aesthetic reasons. They just look cool.

Thermostat as well. Sounds like you know your stuff say have been already on your mind, but just in case future folks read through this post. Also, the power steering pump's seals can harden over time, so it's a pretty easy fix to remove it and replace the seals, when you're pulling out the fluid. There is a how-to on this site - took me 1 hour.

Just to clarify, the mounts will cost $200-$300. With mechanic labor the total cost could be $800. Seems like you do most of the work yourself, so wanted to be clear on costs. The front 2 mounts are pretty straightforward - the rear engine mount is more challenging, but manageable.
