Maintenance minder

I've talked to alot of mechanics and friends about this system. Some said it works fine, is accurate, and can be relied on. Some said to still change the oil every 3k miles. They say if you want to get the maximum life out of the engine you have to do it. My opinion is that honda would hurt their reputation if it didn't work and long lived engines died young. I'd like to get to the truth about this. If your a techy and know how this thing works please respond. All information and opinions greatly appreciated.

I believe that it can be relied on and is a good way to keep your cars maintenance on track. I personally try to change my oil every 3k miles with synthetic oil. I also balance and rotate my tires every oil change and am going to change my trans fluid every two oil change intervals. For most people this is probably pricey, but i work at a honda dealer and get the advantage of using all the shop equipment and get leftovers of all fluids so this is possible for me without spending much money for maintenance. But if you follow your maintenace minders as per the recommended service intervals you should be fine, because it is infact designed by the car manufacturer.
