Maintenance - How do you do it?

This post is mainly for high mileage owners, but anyone can chime in.

This is the first car I have that doesn't really have a maintenance schedule afaik.

My question is: do you guys just follow the MID? Do you have your own maintenance schedule?

How often do you change your oil? Flush your tranny (AT owners)? My car has 125K and I plan to keep it for 2 years in excellent shape. According to records has been maintained meticulously by one owner at the same dealership all the time. I want to continue the same, but don't really know what/when to do maintenance

I am specifically worried about the tranny on these bad boys

Well your question is very broad, and highly depends on how you drive the vehicle. Everyone is going to be irritated by this post LOL, use the search function to look things up yourself and it is very self-explanatory.

Oil: Type, blend, and intensity of driving, and oil weight/temps, all amount to OCIntervals. Using your oil life sensor should help you too. If you drive like a normal human, Acura syn blend is great and lasts under moderate driving conditions where top speed is not an issue[you can go as fast you want], but how you accelerate will play a major roll. Depending on what you choose it is generally best 4-7k. The factory intended is 7k, if the sensor is at 0 % life you need to change the oil!!!

Trans 32-50k, depending how you drive! highly suggest DIY and rapid change, otherwise it will be a pretty penny depending how you drive[mileage]. Making sure your vehicles parts are lubricated does not hurt you what-so-ever and will only make your car last a lot longer.

Use the search function to find what the Acurazine community thinks is the best ATF and Oil are, a lot of opinions and a lot of great knowledge, with reviews of most products.

The maintenance schedule is generally the same for all vehicles if you're asking about mileage based maintenance. Of course, a fluid like oil varies depending on your driving habits, but oil life should be similar to any previous vehicles you've had (2000-5000 for dino and 5000-10000 for synthetic). Follow you instinct.

Yes, we need to dig deep into our subconscious mind to determine what maintenance needs to be performed and when to do it

I use MID as a guide. I drive rough and under "harsh" conditions so I do all my maintenance on the sooner side of things.

Better to do some things sooner than on time or too late.

I posted this thread because I come from a car that had no sort of computer onboard to tell me when to change oil or when to do this service. All I had was the CEL and the maintenance schedule in the book. And basically the maintenance schedule was very optimistic as Bimmers are much more sensitive to maintenance.
I just realized the thread was sort of retarded after posting it

The best computer is in your mind bro, so better read and compute based on the experience of many people on this forum, as mentioned learn the basics of your vehicle otherwise you will be trying to read a book with a blind fold on
