wait a second guys when I bought my TL, the sales person told me it stood for Top o' da' Line... so i believed him... one night i was at a stop light and this silver thing came up... i rolled down my window and asked him if he knew what TL stood for (thinking that Im gunna smoke this guy at green)... all he said was something like porsha GT? I guess he didnt understand my question... anywho at green we both floored it, dang i knew i shouldnt have brought my gf with me that night... SHE SLOWED THE CAR DOWN. awell I will meat that porsha again.

anwyho yea M5 is a serious machine. Benz and BMW have been duking it out with the E55 and the M5 for years. Each year the other company manages to squeak out a little more power. I guess it was BMW to cheat a bit and add another V to the rack... awell

uhhh i dunno what you were thinking. any M car either 3, 5 or soon to be 6 will smoke you. the TL is not a sports car.

Another 5er to avoid.

Since you didn't know about the M5, you will also want to avoid any challenges with a 5'er that has 40 in the model number - as in 540i - since that's a V8, which will spank your rear end too.

If you just gotta screw with a 5'er keep to the 530, or 525 where you might just have a chance. :P

i pulled up next to an 'm5' the other day...

i look, there is an M5 badge on the back...exhaust on just the one side....new 5 series body/etc....i was like, umm, ok, i don't think the new M5 is even out yet, let's see...

must have been a new 525 with an m5 badge slapped on it, cause he never had a chance. how cheesy is that? wish i had taken a pic with my phone.

Actually, the news on the M5 beating you is probably even worse than you think. He almost for sure was not even racing you. Why do I say this? I have a Corvette that will outrun an M5 (I regularly turn 12.8's at 112 in the 1/4). I have sat along side several M5's, and they won't even look at me and acknowledge I exist. And frankly, while I'm glad to run them, I usually just want to give them the thumbs up because I like their car.

I did get a guy in an M3 to run me on the freeway one day though (in my Corvette). From about 60 to 120 I absolutely destroyed him. But it would be the other way around in the TL.

Fun thread!

The TL 6MT has been clocked at like 14.2, although a full second faster in the 1/4 is a kill, I expected from the numbers stated to be around low 12's! The TL can run with any 3 or 5 series sans M's, except the 540 6 speed...

He was definitely punching it as hit tires chirped a bit in first. It doesnt really bother me that the m5 is way faster...hell for like 45000 it BETTER be faster. I am thrilled with my tl anyway. Its plenty fast for my purposes. I honestly just had no idea how fast an m5 is....like I said I never researched cars that I cant afford...or better yet...WANT to afford.

I cant believe we're even comparing the M5 and TL. Both are nice 4 door sport sedans but the TL is a nice entry level luxury sedan (with sporting intentions) and the M5 is a high end world class sports sedan. I could probably count on an amputee's handless arms the number of folks cross shopping between both. In general, the TL's 5-series equivalent is the 530i; which is not a bad car in its own rite.

But hey, who'd want 394hp over Bluetooth?

I just sold my M5 and bought a TL. It was a 2000 model that I ordered and took delivery in April 2000. It was my once in a lifetime dream car, but after 4 years, I got tired of shifting and the warranty was over. It was an expensive car to drive, 13 MPG in the city, and the big sticky tires lasted 12,000 miles and cost $1300 a set. I went through 3 sets in the 4 years (38000 miles). I don't believe there is a better sleeper/family car in the world.

M5 truly is fast.

Fast is when you break into the 13's, IMHO.

Since there are very few production cars getting into the lower 13's stock, that is pretty fast. Cars that get into the 12's are TRUELY fast. I came from a car that was able to do 4.9 zero to sixty and 13.2 in the quarter mile (STOCK). This was the fastest production car at the time (2001). Yes, it was quicker than the M5 and M3's AND It was an automatic. Yep, that's right. No futzing with that stick at all. Some others who own these have place superchargers on then (from either Kleeman or HPS). Those guys are smoking porches and corvettes with runs as low as 12.5. So, beware of any Benz with a 55 in it's label. The new E55 may "look" like a typical sports sedan but it has 469HP and goes zero to sixty in 4.5 (I think). The M3's cost a little over $50K new. The M5's were usually over $60K. I sold my 2001 CLK55 this past december. The car had 28K miles on it. It had about 10 months of warranty left on it. I sold it for the bargin basement price of $41K (For a car that is 3.5 years old, that's a pretty large chunk of cash). Of course I also bought it used nearly a year earlier for $43K so it turned out to be a good investment. You can buy a 2001 CLK55 or M3 today for LESS than the price of a fully loaded NAVI-TL but you won't have (4 seats, navi, bluetooth, warranty, etc). It was also a 2-door coupe and I needed a 4-door for business. I'm VERY happy with my TL. It's a nice compromise.

Please don't continue! Our TL has double wishbone suspension as in Corvettes, Ferraris, and other world renowned sports cars. Although BMW's still have great suspensions. The only BMW's that have comparible build quality to Acura's including the TL is the 3 series. Check Consumer Reports for this. Safety? Acura ranked the highest in all crash tests on this vehicle. BMW may have as well. Prestige? Not as much with Acura, but also not as high of price tag. The TL gets PLENTY chicks, I am 19, trust me on this one.

Now as far as "goota" have factors...

How about I gotta have money in my pocket!

Who cares? if you haven't noticed this thread went off to Corvettes and beefed up 1966 427 Cobras in what car is more powerful than the M5

My point being was no legal street car can beat the 806hp Koenigsegg CCR in a street race.. Not even the newest Porsche Carrera GT (They own this $450K car too). Now you wanna talk super street bikes.. Well there is one that will beat this car..

Keep in mind that this car is street legal and to my knowledge it's on my grandparent's will for me

But yes.. getting back to a BMW that kicked a TL's ass... big frigin deal. M5's are weak, TL's are weak, Corvettes are weak, and every other car mentioned on this thread is WEAK.. I enjoy my TL cause of it's luxary class. Not to race it (even though i still do :P )

That's incredible!!! You made a huge sacrifice in that change, I'm going from 2002 525 Manual Sport/Premium Packages, to a TL which to me is in some ways a downgrade, but then again I guess your move shows how the TL is a great car.

Hmmm, call me crazy, but I think you're full of shit! I really doubt your grandparents have that car. I dunno why, but maybe because you come across as being a grade A douche bag. That car is not a production car(by industry standards). It is NOT capable of 294 mph, not a chance. And even if by some out in left field chance you Grandparents DO have this car, it is NOT street legal. In order to be street legal, it has to be able to pass certain crash tests as well as smog tests(especially in CA).

By NO measure are either the Corvette or the M5 weak! Especially since YOU drive a 270 hp(no slouch, really) car. It's kinda like talkin shit to a guy twice your size because you have your even bigger brother behind you. It's lame. Besides there ARE street legal Supra Turbos running around capable of 9 second QT's, just check out the latest issue of Sport Compact Car. :sqntfawk:

BMW makes awesome performance minded vehicles, that have no integrity, there are like Benz's anbd Jags, all looks no longevity, waste of money. Get a supercharger, new headers, cat back exhaust, new springs and NOS and that M5 would have been dusted of course then your car's engine would quickly blow-up too, but you would have beaten him.

I knew this lame comeback would come next. It IS street legal.. but very expensive.. it's one of a kind. You are right, it is NOT a production car, I never said it was.. They have another line of non production cars some legal, some not. Only cars you woudl see at a car show in S.F. ...This particular car is legal however. ALong with some others you would be surprised to find legal. My grandparents own like a good percentage of L.A. in real estate.. If you made an income of 500K a month you can easily afford these one-of-a-kind cars. And if you read the frigin link I sent you, it does state that it IS legal. AND READ MORE and you will see it passed crash tests and got very high ratings! don't speak before you read. and don't call peopl grade A douche bags just because they say their granparents own these one of a kind vehicles. This car is never driven and is simply a collectible. It says on the site that the tests on the car got it up to 294mph.. I'm not saying I actually drove the car and went this speed. AGAIN, read before you speak ALRIGHT? And also I said the TL is weak along with the other cars (and yes I admitted I drive a TL and that I don't own it for power, but for its luxary class) ... you must just scan things instead of reading them then you just pull comments out of your ass... :sqntfawk: back at ya.

ANd this thread was already killed a long time ago.. I was just adding comments onto it to make this thread go away! This thread is now lame for sure as bad as it can get! no more replies from me! KILL US already whoever adds to this thread. Do not compare M5 to TL! POINTLESS

I'm SICK of hearing about freaking BMW's and rich kids's bragging about their grandparents owning a Koenigsegg...this forum is about TL's.
