Low-mileage '06 TL: What to replace?
Low-mileage '06 TL: What to replace?
Hey gang...
Original owner of an '06 TL, purchased July '06. Hard to believe but true, my rig only has 33K miles on it...I spent a good part of the past several years traveling for work, which meant that my car spent a lot of time parked at home or airport. Only maintenance I've done on it in the almost 5 years I've owned it has been regular oil changes, and I replaced my stock air filter with a K&N. That's it. (Also note I live in a warm weather climate.)
So, low mileage but plenty of time has passed. Should I be thinking about pre-emptively replacing my stock battery and tires, or ride 'em both out (still seem to have plenty of batt juice, and rubber)? Any other suggestions? (I also never brought it in for the power steering fluid leak recall that came out in '08, and I've been leak-free (knock on wood)).
Thanks for your ideas.

Take your tires and battery to the edge, IMO. No major repercussions from letting those go until their not good anymore (just don't get a blowout! Take your tires until their safe tread depth).
Checking your brake pads, rotors, and fluid is probably a good idea. Although the fluid is probably the only thing in need of a change. You may also want to consider changing out your transmission fluid with a Type F fluid. Also, you would probably benefit from changing your 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensors. Do a quick search on Transmission fluid and 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensors and look for posts by I Hate Cars. You can determine for yourself whether or not you want to take the initiative to do the maintenance. Although many on this forum would recommend it!
