Love and Hate - TL-S Sick Humor
I love driving my 6-weeks new Acura TL-S so much that I can overlook it's warts, almost........ So I go to my new car to get something out of the trunk. I open the drivers door, plop down with my feet out on the ground, hit the button to pop the trunk and remember.... I forgot to log the mileage then I completed my business trip arriving home a half hour ago; So I grab my mileage book, and look to the odometer; It is dark, of course, because it is electronic. So I need the keys. Fortunately, they are not in the house, but rather close-by in the passenger seat while the car sits in my garage (Of course, they should be in the ignition so I don't have to find them and insert the key, but that is another story). So I locate the keys in the passenger seat, insert them in the ignition, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, and D@## , the odometer display says drivers door is open so I have to close the door before I can read the mileage. I rearrange myself with my legs in the car, close the door, (thankfully, that horrid beeping stops) and S*&#, now the display says the trunk is open! I have to open the door, endure the horrid BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP while I run around the car to the trunk and close it. BEEP BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, as I approach the drivers door, situate myself entirely in the car, and close the door, Finally, the beeping stops. I am almost grateful that my D@## car did not make me fasten my seatbelt, push OK to acknowledge it is not safe to watch the GPS screen while driving, and then push OK again to acknowledge the passenger airbag is disabled because my briefcase is riding in the passenger seat, before it would turn the odometer on. I write the mileage in my log book, then I open the door to BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP as I exit the car to get my drill out of the trunk, and F@#$<mailto:F@#$> The trunk is closed. I re-open the door to BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, push the trunk release button, close the door (temporarily muting the BEEP) walk around to the trunk and take my drill, closing the trunk as I leave the garage. Thankfully, I won't have to look at that !@#$<mailto:!@#$> car, or listen to it's !@#$<mailto:!@#$> BEEPing again until morning when It is time to go to work. While it is fun to drive, it is hard to love my new Acura TL.

You know there is a little rubber button on the back side of the door frame that you can push in to make the car think the door is closed. Once you push that you will see the mileage on the MID and the beeping will stop.
You shouldn't have to do anything with the nav to get your mileage, they are not related.
All of the things you are upset about are designed to help you (well maybe not you, but the absent minded). Beeping lets you know the key was left in the ignition. The "trunk open" display, well it lets you know the trunk was open.

Thanks for the rubber button idea.... That is the pin switch for the door. Actually, that does work, if the trunk is not released. It is easier than getting my long legs in the car and closing the door just to see the odometer.

I know what you mean to a degree... When I first got the car and everytime I'd show it to a friend or family member, I wanted to show them the MID...but oh wait, I couldn't cuz the door was open. I didn't even think of pressing the button on the side - the dealership even pressed it while they were showing me how to use it and I forgot about that little trick pretty quickly, haha.

But there is another post with ridiculous reasons to hate his TL. Very much in line with your reaction.

Couple days ago, I pull into the garage, park, cut the engine. remove the key and open the door. Car says, "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP". WTF? My car doesn't beep when I park. Had moved the headlights out of AUTO and forgot about it.
BTW - you did not need to push the OK button on the Navi or the OK button on the Airbag note to see the odometer. You only pushed those buttons 'cause you're an Engineer and a button wanted pushing.

In exchange, heres another tip: When people turn their car off but leave the car still turned 'on' with the key in the II position, be sure to turn the AC OFF. This is the single biggest battery drainer, and will leave you stranded after a few hours of being on while the engine is off...
