Lost Key

I'm vacationing in Maine at my cousin's, 8 hours from home and I lost my keys & fob. I know I probably have to call a dealer, but the nearest Acura dealer is 3 1/2 hours away and the nearest Honda dealer is 2 hours away. And worse yet, it's Sunday! How screwed am I ?

Call AAA if you're a member and check for a local locksmith who can make a key to get you home

Otherwise it might be a claim on the comprehensive insurance for the car-- pay the deductible for new keys and fobs at a dealership.

G/L!

Thanks. I'll deal with the fob when I get home as I have another one there and a key. Right now, I just need to get home.

Probably your best bet would be a locksmith.

Even if you could cut a key that would open the door, wouldn’t it still have to be programmed by the dealership for the car to start? I didn’t think a locksmith could make/program a new key unless you have an existing key that works. I know on my Camry that’s the way it works.

If you have someone that has access to your house, have them mail you the keys using the fastest method and use this situation to extend your vacation by one more day.
Since it is Sunday, there really isn't much you can do, so extending your vacation looks to be inevitable.

As long as you don't get fired tomorrow, or had urgent plans tomorrow, just make the best out of the situation and enjoy the vacation longer.

Did you find the key or did you end up stuck in Maine? Don't leave us hanging!

Enquiring minds seem to want to know. So, here's what's transpired. Called AAA, they referred me to regional locksmith who came over with his GF, was able to open the car AND make a key that works. Tonight I get a text from my cousin that they found the keys as I predicted they would.
A $280 Lesson!

I bet you'll never take a long road trip without putting a spare key in the bag! I'm glad you got a key and made it home. That's interesting that the locksmith could cut a key and program it. I thought only the dealer was capable of doing that and only with the car there!
