Angry Lost KEY!

This morning at 5:30am I am looking frantically thru the house for my key "1" for my TL. Finally have to settle on using wifes key '2'. Have family in town so who know where the key ended up.

So, how much will it cost to get a replacement Acura key with transmitter?
Frustrated.

Key should run you from $25-40 including programming and the remote is about $75. Have your salesman help you program the new remote so it will sync with the #2 remote you currently have. (Unless the service dept will do it without charging.)

Here's how you do it if you want to do it yourself:

Get both remotes and get in your TL

Turn on the key and then push the lock button once on one remote.

Turn off the key and then repeat that sequence three more times. (4 total)

you will hear a click in the car after the fourth time

Now, alternating between both remotes, push the lock button on #1 then #2, then unlock button on #1 & #2. repeat.

Take key out & test both remotes.

Done!

does this mean that the replacement fob is a clone of #2? if so doesn't he lose the memory settings for #1.

The replacement FOB is a #1 remote but the two need to be synced together, otherwise anybody could order a replacement TL FOB & get into your car. I believe the seat and driver preferences will not need to be reset, but no guarantee on that one!

Thanks for the info. Plus having a 1 and 4 year old in the house added 2 suspects to my inquisition. Having owned 10 plus cars, never lost a remote. Oh well, worse things can happen.

The solution is to go buy a new key and transmitter. You will find the lost one promptly. Guaranteed.

I would freak out. Also, since you are using your wifes remote, thae seats and mirrors set for her. What a PIA. My wife lost a transmitter on my Accord and it was about $30 Canadian.

At least it's not a VW/Audi key w/ built-in remote - $155.

I am giving it a week and then off to the dealer to buy a new transmitter and key. PIA, now I understand the frustration some of you felt when there was the memory issue the early 04's.

I did the same thing. The last time I saw my key was last week on the dresser. I've looked everywhere I can think of, but still haven't found it yet.

I stopped at the Acura dealer in Little Rock last Friday on my way to Dallas to get a new key. They said they needed to see my registration and driver's license and got the VIN from the registration. They could not get the key coded and said they would have to pull the car in the shop. After about 1 hour I had my new key and the total price was $42. Remember the old days when you could go to the hardware store and get a key fo $1. I did not get a new remote; hoping mine will turn up.

The service manager told me the first key they cut was for a 2000. I looked and had given them the registration for the 2000TL that I had traded for the 04TL. Anyway, I finally got my key and it works fine.

My service rep told me that they ask for ID because they'll get requests to cut new keys from teenagers/young adults while their parents are away on vacation !

I think its a good idea. Could not just be kids, but anyone might be able to have a key made for your car.
