Looks like TL does stand for Total Loss
In st. louis we got hit with some pretty bad hail last week, and my tl was outside and couldn't get it in the garage. not one panel was spared. insurance still has to come out to look at it, but they're booked for the next week. I took it to a body shop for an estimate...and they came to $8700. it's an 04 with 109,xxx on it. I don't see it getting fixed. fml

when did I say that I didn't have insurance? I went to the body shop to get an idea if it was going to get totaled or not. But it will get totaled.
and with what needs to get done, I dont want to fix it. the roof is gonna have to be replaced. on a unibody car...no thanks. but to sum it up. hood, fenders, roof, trunk would have to be replaced. and ATTEMPT to PDR the quarter panels. i'll try to get pics, but since the car is black they don't show up too well in the pics.

You didn't say that you don't have insurance. I was saying, this is exactly why you have insurance - so when something like this happens you don't have to fork up $8k.

Exactly, the way you worded it OP, you made it sound like you couldn't wait to have the insurance adjuster come out and quote it, you went straight to a shop to see how much it would cost out of pocket.

I read it as OP being anxious about his car getting the sh*t kicked out of it in a hail storm and wanted to get an idea of the cost to repair, thus he couldn't wait a week to get an estimate from his ins. I am sure that he is still having the adjuster come out, he just now has a better idea of what he may be looking at ... not knowing is the hardest thing...

Sorry OP, didn't mean to sound like I was calling you an idiot for you thinking that I was implying that I thought you didn't have insurance
wait wut?
Anyways, it's not a total loss. After the adjuster totals it, put your money into a type-s or wait and see what the 2013 TL looks like.

Glad I live in Cali, way to many weather issues to deal with in the midwest and East coast states to worry about.
Hope you do get if repaired, if the car was reliable and in great condition prior to the hail storm. Fix it and keep it.

Sorry you have to go through this.
I had to go through a similar thing last year from a bad hailstorm. I doubt my damage was as bad as yours is, but it ended up costing about $6500 IIRC, all PDR. But the guy that fixed it did an amazing job with it.

Many others in the same boat, although a TSX, here's a post from a while back:

Sorry to say there's not many locations that don't deal with a disaster at one time or another.
How about earthquakes in CA? This one only caused about $20 billion in damages:

but an earth quake doesnt necessarily damage everything exposed to the sky as hail does. I dont remember the last time we even had hail. We're still waiting for "the big one" earthquake for the past few years (that picture you posted is from '94). Other than that we dont deal with snow salt and other things.
as long as my TL is safe
only other thing i can think of is santa ana winds. Some of those might knock a tree or two down or some power lines.

True, but earthquakes are very localized. We actually just had a minor 3.9 or something near Oceanside, CA last week. I felt it at work, but uneventful otherwise. People 50 miles north in LA didnt feel a thing.

CA from the last decade:
Tsunami Wave
(6)Winter Storms, Debris, Mud Slides
(3)Earthquakes
Flooding-Levee Break
(3)Wildfires
Severe Freeze
These don't even incorporate the local occurances, but are a condition that FEMA has deemed exceptional and aide to the victims has been offered.
Guess it's time to get off my podium and back the Acura problems.

The insurance guy estimated damages at just under $13K.
