Looking into getting an 05 TL

Hey guys

Newbie from Canada here. I have been lurking the forums here for a few weeks and finally decided to register and start posting.

I am a die hard Honda fan!!!!!

I currently have a 1995 Honda Civic si track car and I have a 2001 Honda CBR600 f4-i. I am looking into purchasing and 3rd gen TL as a daily driver. I think it is about time for me to get something nice for myself.

I have read the members garage and a lot of other posts and I just have a few questions.

I am going to a local Acura dealership tomorrow to check out a couple of 05 TL's and just want some info before I go.

First off did anyone on here have trouble deciding between a TL or a TSX when they got their 3rd gen?
If so why did you pick the TL??
I have pretty much decided on the TL but the TSX is nice too.

Next what should I look for when test driving a TL other then the interior noises?

What should I be paying? (remember I am in Canada so the price will be higher)

These are the two TLs the dealership has

1. 05 Acura TL WDP/Black interior/no navi
52,000kms (32300 miles)
has balance of Acura 4 year warranty
Price is $30,450

2. 04 Acura TL WDP/Black interior/no navi
33,000kms (20,500 miles)
no warranty
Price is $31,900

Which one would you choose?

Also I have never bought a car from a dealership before, how much room is there to negotiate within those prices?

Any info you have would be greatly appreciated

Thanks guys

Seems expensive to me. I recently purchased a '07 TL Type S in Cathedral City, CA and when I went back to the dealer they were selling a '07 TL with NAV for $32K plus tax. Great cars and they also have a great body style.

it sounds like the 05 is the better one to go with. make sure the cars havn't been in any accidents. Also, i looked at tsxs before i looked at tls, but for not much money you get much more car. I don't think the interior of a tsx is anywhere near as nice as a tl's interior. plus the tl is much faster. Not sure how gas milage works out though.

Oh my word! They are trying to rob you blind! They must think you are young (which you are) and dumb (which you are not since your asking wise questions). To give you an example, I paid $23,500 for an '05 (no navi) with 32K miles. There are deals better than that!

05 WDP just bought in Texas

Hey bro,
3 weeks ago down here in Dallas/Ft Worth TX USA I bought a 2005 WDP with Nav and 16,000 miles on it for $25,600 US dollars. I think I got a good deal but of course everyone who has ever bought a car thinks they got a good deal!
For what it's worth to you, definitely get the NAV. It makes the car so much better and I actually use it and I never thought I would use the NAV. Best of luck to you up there!

First, dealership used car prices are negotiable; they usually get the car at a minimum of $3K (US) less than the listed sale price. Do some research for prices on comparable cars in your area. I have no idea how much $30K Canadian converts to in the US $, or what market price is in your area. Aim for the bottom of the retail range. Worse that can happen is that dealer rejects your offer and you take your money home. Do not hesitate to walk out if the price isn't worth it, and remember that you can negotiate for added stuff (mats, shop manuals, visors, wheels, etc.-- anything the dealer has for sale) if you are close on price.

Why no warranty on car #2- is it a US market car? If so, you should avoid US market cars like the plague because the Canadian network won't help you at all. Also, avoid "salvage titles" (i.e. totaled and repaired cars). That means get #1 out of your choices, assuming it drives well!

The TL is faster than the TSX, but I was originally going to get a 6M TSX until my wife said she wanted an auto transmission. The 6M TSX is a great car; the auto TSX is too slow and non-responsive for me. I didn't need the additional space of the TL, but have no regrets at all about getting it instead of the TSX.

On the used TL, it's like any other car- pay attention to how it drives and tracks. Inspect for body work so you know what you're getting. Pay an independent mechanic to give it a once-over if neither you nor anyone you know is comfortable with assessing the car.
G/L!
