Looking at a couple TL's
Hi I am in the market for a used 3g tl. I am looking at two right now and was wondering if current owners cared to lend their knowledge/advice.
The first one is a 2005 WDP 6MT with nav and 105k. The current owner is the second owner and owned it since 40k. He has service records and the car is in excellent shape. It is completely stock. After some negotiation he is willing to sell it for $10800. No accidents.
The second is a 2007 WDP Type S 6MT with nav and 91k. It was a trade in at a local dealership and it has not gone through their shop yet, it is registered in a different province than here. There are several imperfections on the exterior and interior, cracked fog light lens, a 2 inch scratch on a rear door, impressions and minor tears on the seats, the lower side body lip is loose on the passenger side. It is in fairly rough shape due to many very small bits of damage. It is also still quite dirty as the dealer just got it. Of course my concern is that the interior/exterior is an indication of how the car has been treated and they do not have any service records, they showed me the carfax and it has no accidents. Their sticker price is 15900, I test drove it and it runs excellent, the nav screen was asking for a password and they diddnt have it, I told them that due to the condition I would want to pay $12000 assuming all of the features work, they said they are going to put it through the shop and call me back to make an offer. I like this car because it is 2 years newer and has less miles than the other one and is a type s.
So anyone have any advice for a future tl owner?

If it were me, I'd avoid both cars and keep looking. But if I had to choose, I'd go for the '05. Make sure that the 105k service has been done (timing belt, water pump, sparks plugs), otherwise that will set you back about $700-1000. If it hasn't been done, use that when negotiating the price. If the car is in excellent shape with the service records that's usually a good indication that the car was treated well. Best of luck with your decision.

Assuming everything checks out in the shop- the S.

It's too bad the type s is in rough shape. The 05 sounds like it was cared for, but the type s would obviously be the sweeter car to have. If you want an S then keep looking, or if the car turns out to be ok and your fine with one that isn't mint, then go for it.

^^ Wow, what the hell? I wonder if it was in a collision and the shop failed to realize it was a Type-S when it ordered the tail lights. I'd stay away from that one- too much potential for finding gremlins you didn't expect.
