Looking to Buy Type S.. Own Base...Thoughts?

What's up guys and gals! So here's the deal. I have an '05 base 6spd manual NBP with tan interior, Navi (w/2010 disc), iSimple, an Aspec kit, Ebony Chrome Aspec Wheels and rear Spoiler. I've been wanting a Type S 6spd manual NBP with the Taupe(creme) interior. Couldnt find one that wasn't auto though. Thats why i bought my base '05. Well i got a call today that my dealership got one in. Exactly what i want. The only thing is i can get only about 11k for my base 05 with the trade in. I know i can get way more if i sold it private. So here's what i would love to do.
Buy the Type S (50K) and sell my Base (113K) with the Type S wheels, tail lights and kit. My question is would the Type S kit fit on the Base bumpers and the ASpec on the Type S? Pretty sure they would. I want to have the Type S but with my Aspec wheels and Aspec kit on it. What are your guys opinions?

Type S front and rear bumper is different than base TL, so you will need Type S front bumper and cutting your rear bumper to fit. Base A-spec kit will need to modify your bumper to fit on the Type S but I think the Type S kit is more aggressive than base.

The kit would require modification. I say do it. I prefer all the visual improvements the Type S has. Type S Aspec kit is much more attractive than base.

So i would have to mod the Type S bumpers to fit the Aspec kit front and rear lips? How about the Type S kit on the Base?

So am i confused on the kit that's on the Type S? Is it an Aspec? The Front lip that looks like it goes around the fogs?

Type S has a different Aspec kit than base 07/08 TL.

ok if your plan is put a Type S lip kit into your 05 TL then you will need Type S front bumper to fit the front lip, I think you also need rear Type S bumper because the middle insert. So you will need front and rear Type S bumper and the front and rear Type S lip.

If you want to transfer your current A-spec kit into an Type S then you will have to modify the Type S front bumper (cuttin, trimming), I don't think your rear lip will fit on the Type S. The side will fit without modification at all.

This thread might help you a bit if you are confused at the difference of the type-s aspec. Although I am not sure but I don't think the rear base will fit on the type-s. The type-s' exhaust outlet is bigger so you may have a problem fitting the quad exhaust into the base hole. Of course modifications can be done with that too but that can be a lot of work if it does not fit.

Personally I would just sell yours and buy the S and then buy the aspec kit for it. Also post a picture of the one you are looking at buying if possible and we can see if it has aspec or not.

I get that you want a type-s.... But it's going to be very similar to the car you own now, especially if you keep the wheels. You already have 6sp, nav, aspec... Ur gonna pay all that money for more a lil horsepower and an upgraded interior? I am not trying to downgrade the type s but I just don't understand... Not worth the $$ for the differences in what u currently have. But it's your decision... If thats what u want, Go for it

Switch wheels and buy a new aspec kit for the type S. it's not like any of this stuff is irreplaceable. Sounds like if you went with the straight switch fom each other you would e wasting more time than it's worth.

I think i was thinking there was an actual Type S kit and it was the Type S Apsec kit. So i was looking to have the Type S with its goodies, my Aspec lip kit and Aspec wheels.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I would be able to use an 04-06 Aspec Lip or 07-08 base Aspec lip with modification but need to get the 07-08 Type S ASpec rear lip to work with the Type S rear bumper.

Lets also remember that i will be going from an older '05 to an '07. From 113k miles to 50k. So it'll be a Certified Pre-Owned Type S 6spd with way less mileage, the interior i want with the kit and wheels. I can get the interior if i could get in touch with AckTL05 and mod the car a bit but i don't like messing with stock to aftermarket anymore since it gets expensive. I'd also have the motor, fogs , turn sig mirrors, rear camera, exhaust, brakes and suspension on the Type S already without modding it like the Base. I've seen this with my Prelude. Which is still my baby. But i see what you are saying too and i have thought of that.

Sounds like a perfect plan. I'd also have to place the TPMS sensors from the Type S wheels into my non-TPMS Aspec Wheels.

Is the Type-s really going to be THAT much quicker than your current car?

If you find a nice 2009 - 2010 Mercedes C63 AMG in Arctic White with either black or beige interior let me know. I've been waiting and waiting and looking. Buying a used car sucks

I have been wanting to swap my 04 5AT for a 6MT, but type-s is a big jump due to year and power. So I'm stuck with 04-06 6MT or wait until I can afford a type s. Since that will be in a year, I will test drive the SH-AWD 6MT and a type s to see which brings a bigger smile when I step on the pedal.

^^^just wait, I had waited for 5 years to get my TL-S. Type S MT can be pricey, even the AT Type S can be sold minute it hit the dealership or website such as ebay, cars, autotrader and craigslist. I was looking all over for the Type S and when I do see one that fit me I call and I always got the same responses "Sorry there is a deposit on the car already and it will be deliver to customer today". I even beat the sale man at Acura dealer who offer me to going into auction and looks for a Type S with mileage and condition that I wanted.

the 4G is heavier. so, the 3G will pull harder.

the 4G will give you a bigger grin in the corners.

It'll be forever to find this car. Since Acura didn't make many manual transmission cars.

I have only owned 2 auto Honda's in the 24 that I have owned. a 97 Honda Accord Wagon and a 2000 Honda Accord V6.

Honda/Acura makes them you just have to settle for what they made or make your auto car a manual.

Waiting sucks though. I wanted a Type S TL from the first commercial I seen back in 07. Picked mine up last year with 25k miles for $25k. She is sitting 11 months later with 31,800 miles.

She looks nice. Drivers seat leather is a bit worn, but normal. This one is definitely a 6MT. Go check it out! Good luck.

That price is not steep.
Its worth $21k.

Your choice.

If you want NBP and a stick, test drive it, look it over VERY CLOSE !!!
Gaps, underneath, etc.

GO FOR IT

The driver's seat looks a little "well-travelled", but a good cleaning should improve the look. Not a bad price considering it's a rare 6MT. It's worth checking out. Good luck!

Looks good for the price. The last of your concerns should be the wear on drivers seat. Drive it and lets us know

So it was raining all day yesterday and i decided to go check out the car today. I emailed the guy letting him know i'd be there around 1-130pm. literally when i was rolling up to the place, i get a call from the place telling me the car is not there, it's at there other location today. They took it over there til tomorrow so their other mechanic can look at it. Don't know what the means.. Hopefully nothing wrong with the car. No way they will be getting $19,900 for a car with issues. Sounds a bit sketchy but i should of called instead of emailing the guy back.
