Looking to buy a TL
Looking to buy a TL
Hello all,
I am thinking of purchasing an automatic 2004 or 2005 TL. Is there any problems I should be aware of about this car? Any common issues, major and minor? I read somewhere where this one guy was on his 3rd tranny and he was at 65k miles. That right there is very concerning. Any help would really be great, thanks!

I have an 05 w/ 49k miles w/ no tranny problems whatsoever. Check the 3G Garage for common issues on 04-05's. There were a couple of recalls like the power steering hose and wiper motor.
im looking at this thread right here :

seems that there is a transmission issue. happening a little over 50k miles

I just bought my '05 5AT w/ 44K about 3 months ago - and I had the exact same feelings. If you're going to spend that much on a car you don't want to have to worry about possibly dropping thousands on a new tranny in the near future. After pouring through just about every tranny thread on Acurazine, I concluded that while there have been a few members here with tranny problems, there are many others with trouble free trannys that have gone over 100K.
It also sounds like TL's built after mid 2005 have a revised tranny case for improved oil flow - which is supposed to improve reliability a little bit, which is why I went for a late build '05 (also because I heard that the audio system and front seats are a little better in the '05).
Worst case scenario - if you do happen to have a tranny failure it sounds like many Acura dealerships will work with you to help absorb some of the cost of a new tranny. I would also look for certified pre-owned for the extended warranty.
In the end, I had the same exact worries as you did and was nervous about my purchase. I've already put 7K miles on her and I have no regrets whatsoever - this is by far the best car I've ever owned!

I run a 2004 Acura TL with 99,000 miles about to christian her at 100,000 never had a single tranny issue. I'm assuming they might be caused by someones poor sportshifting abilities.
My 04 TL is also going up for sale soon.

I have an 04 Auto with around 65k on it. No transmission problems at all. I keep up on my maintenance and have had no issues with anything else either. As others have stated there are 2 recalls, wiper motor and power steering hose.
Come on, Honda's and Acura's run FOREVER!!!
