Hey ! I'm a happy Honda owner I've had a couple civics iam currently driving an 01 and the thing just won't die .. Lol
So I've been wanting to upgrade to a tl 04-08. And from searching online I keep finding transmission failure problems but I think that's mostly with the 03 models or previous style. Any ways my question is are these cars as good as my civic is for reliability? Are they lemons or a good choice ... Thanks!

you'll have to realize that at the very basic level, it is a honda. except its an entry level luxury car.

this means cost of things will be a lot higher than your civics.

if I were in the market right now; it would have to be the latest and greatest iteration of this generation.
so, the best ones available are the 07-08's.

I would not look at 04-06's simply because they are probably beat to shit.

also, the 07-08's received beefier transmission set up's, so that they wont die.

 

The 07/08 TL and Type-S TL's seem to be much more reliable as they use a modified version of the RL tranny. If you're going 6MT, then no worries.

I have an 05 w/ 189k miles still on the original tranny...just sayin.

Disagree on going against the 04-06 because they're beat to shit. If you look around you can find old gramps still driving some, low mileage, everything done at the dealership. They make perfectly fine cars and they can be had sometimes fairly cheaper than 07-08 models just because they're older.

Same inspection applies as buying any other car.
