Hey guys,

I am looking into buying a 3G TL. I want only a manual. But I am looking for more information on them before I go out and plop down money on one.

Are there any serious issues with them? Anything that is common that is a majorly expensive fix?

I come from the euro world, I have been modding cars since I could drive. But I have a 2 year old so I need something a bit more dadly. I currently drive a 99 volvo V70R. Its a great car, it is just getting old and I am tired of working on it constantly.

I need something just super super reliable. That is mainly why I am looking at the TL, i love the style, the performance, and the ability to get it in a manual. Plus the price is absolutely perfect for me. There are a few of them in my area for around 18k with about 50-60k and a manual and navi.

Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me! Appreciate it, pictures of some nice TLs and some things to look for would be great as well.

 

the common issue wit the 6mt is the third gear popping out of gear, however its an easy fix with gm synchromesh fluid.

other than that they are solidly built

i bought my Volvo in June and have spent about 5000 in repairs...so that is why i am done with it. i am trying to find something just super reliable.

what about like roof racks? i mountain bike, is it easy to get a roof rack for them?

that is the car i am going to look at right now.

 

The car looks like it's in good condition, but the carfax report shows that it's been in an accident. It says that the rear area was primary damaged, so it doesn't sound bad, but still, be careful.

roof racks...what do you want to know???

i have a thule on my roof, i've had yakima on my other cars before that. i would have gotten yakima but they didn't have a fitment for them when i bought the car in 05. car has only been naked without the rack for about 24 hours since i bought it new.

thule=square bars, yakima = round bars, all mounts between brands are interchangeable with the right mounting brackets.

my last car i ran yakima base with thule big mouth mounts. get an old style faring if you can, the little farings from both companies sit ON TOP of the sunroof making it useless. if you run upright mounts you will need to the extender. if you run fork mounts you dont' need the extender. i hated the fork mounts, PITA to keep taking the front wheel on and off. any other questions?? let me know.
