Looking at a 3G TL

Hey all,

I am new here, and new to acura. I am looking at getting a TL between 05 - 07 with an automatic transmission. Im just curious as to what I should be looking for and if there is an advantage of one over the other. I know the 05's had more bhp at 270 than the 06 and 07, but ive heard they had some transmission problems. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

Look at the 07/08 models. They use a modified version of the RL's tranny.

I have an 05 w/ 189k miles. Still on it's original tranny.

All 04-08 base TL's have the same HP.

Welcome to AcuraZine.

if i were in the market today; i would only buy the latest version.

why buy an 04 when an 08 will be newer and have less mileage.(assuming the 04 has been used for 3 years prior)

I would def. consider for the Type S. The interior is beautiful and you get more performance.

Also, I looked for months for the perfect 2007-2008 TL Type S. I was looking for a garage beauty, with something under about 60,000 miles. It's important to find someone who babied the vehicle as I'm sure it will be new to you just like it was me. Great choice by the way!

Not to mention that I bought one for half of what it sold for with very low miles, 33,770 to be exact. What is your price range? I may have some valuable insight considering how long I searched for.

If you were to look at 3G TLs looks for an 07-08 base or Type-S.

I upgraded to a 2G MDX and no longer have my 3G TL. But it had 164k miles and the transmission was not having any issues. Simple D4 fluid changes done and pressure switches were all that was needed.

Now the electronic side of things like Navi and bluetooth have gone out over the course of ownership so the 07-08s will last a bit longer. This is a near 10 year old car we are talking about. So if you can afford the later refreshed(better styled) TLs of the 3G then you shouldn't have any major issues.

I may consider finding a clean Type-S later once I'm closer to paying off the 'X' since that gen was just amazing.

Basically what others have said. Get an 07/08. They have updated exterior and interior styling as well has solid transmission. Updated tech features such as backup cam on nav equipped models. Good cars, love my 6mt Type S.

^THIS. I wished I had a backup camera on my 05. Gauge cluster looked great too compared to the 04-06.

i'm also new to the forum but not to acura . I'd go 07/08 as stated before, and i would also try and find one that comes with maintenance records, so you have proof it was taken care of.
