A long awaited run with interesting results...
Yes....finally it happened folks. A 335i. I was coming home from my boys house and saw a blue 335i with wheels. It was not the heavier Xi, but indeed the lonely letter i.
I tried pacing him a few times to no avail. I downshifted to 4th and punched it. Again, showing no signs. However, I punched it in 3rd gear to see if he would bite one last time...and he did. However, by 3rd I mean the very top of 3rd....it was late at night and hardly anyone was on the road.
After I punched it at the very top of 3rd and let off, he goes for it! So he gets the initial jump here and pulls a good 2 cars on me pretty easily, so it seems. We had to slow down due to 1 car (the only car on the road, I swear), and go once more. This time a continued punch from the previous run, from low (still in powerband) 4th gear.
He was already in front about 2 cars at this point, so it was difficult to tell what was really happening. However, throughout 4th gear the gap seemed to stay constant. Neither of us were pulling until the very top where I (yes, I) started to creep.
We then shut it down with caution (no other cars were in sight). He turned off at the next exit and flashed his high beams.
I'm about as sure as one can be without seeing firsthand that it was not the MT, but the AT. Either way I'm pretty happy at the results. I wish we could've done an actual 3rd gear roll and got off at the same time, but I'm content.

OMG!!!! NO SHIT!!!!
I ran one yesterday. a red 335i sedan with the older tails so im assuming it wasnt the new one.
ran from the top of 2nd to the middle of 4th and we were dead even the whole way, i had to slow down because a car cut out in front of me. i didnt want to post because i already have plenty of doubters

Bryan,
Hope you don't mind, but can I ask you yet another question about driving your 6MT? Sounds like you're a damn good driver...when you're shifting fast, say against this 335i for relevance, do you "slap" gears...as in clutch in, shift, drop the clutch without feathering, and then smash on the gas again? I've noticed that with quick acceleration, the "grabbing" point is a lot smaller on my G, and it doesn't require "feathering" like when trying to shift smoothly. Then again, when easing it up to high speeds without being completely on the gas, I've noticed that feathering is okay; the clutch grabs with a bit of feathering (letting clutch out slowly); is that the way the typical manual transmission works? It has to be the load that's on the clutch, right? Or does is possibly have to do with the difference in transmission speed and car speed that dictates how quickly the clutch will grab (on the pedal, letting out the clutch slower lets the car free rev). Slapping gears...is it bad (dropping clutch between shifts during "spirited" runs)? LOL questions, questions, question...
THANKS MAN!!!

I would've been shocked too! I'm just glad I finally got to run one. My boy just got a Pepsi blue 335i coupe with the 6MT. I told him I wanted to do a friendly run and get it on camera (knowing I'd lose) just to see how I would fair against it. He said he has to get used to the car first and that I shouldn't even try lol but we will. It's the 2009 or 2010 I forget which, but he said it's single turbo?? Did they switch to a single? Idk but I'll try to get some footage.
Erick, there wasn't much shifting going on in this race lol that's why I was even more surprised because it was sheer power. But when I shift quick I do not "feather" the clutch, I hammer that thing lol. Yes, I "slap" as you called it, I do not feather at any point. This is one of the main reasons I want to do the SC check valve mod because when I shift I do it rather viciously. Sometimes I powershift, which is keeping your foot on the gas while quickly pushing and releasing the clutch.
I think maybe you just need to get used to how the G37 clutch feels. Every clutch takes a bit of getting used to, some more than others. The clutch on my Accord is a little strange as well, being "self-adjusting," and took me a little while to get used to. With more practice you will get the feel of the clutch and at what point in the pedal travel it grabs.

I am just getting used to "slapping" gears, but I do not have the balls to powershift. Just the thought of my foot being welded to the gas petal and coordinating shifts right before redline is quite intimidating.
Make sure to videotape the race vs your friends 335i 6MT, try to jimmy rig a mount on your passenger seat

Nice race Sonnick! I've been wanting to run a 335i forever lol
Don't you hate the races that end so fast or you can't get a decent run in??
but it sounds like you would have edged him out if you got a fair run. Very nice!

All e90 335s have the twinturbo engine that is underrated at 300hp/tq but the 09/10s dont put down 305 to the wheels stock. The 2011 will have the new n55(IIRC) single turbo engine that will be a monster even though it is still rated the same.

You lucky dog . . I've been thinking of the outcome with one of those for a some time.
And yes, I believe it . . but not sure I believe Phee's story
j/k.
What really sucks about this is that just today I had a 335i come whipping in and out of traffic and really thought about going after him, but decided traffic was too heavy and let it go. Oh well, I start tearing mine down this weekend and will be itching to run one soon . . . I hope.

Just fine, thanks for asking man! I wouldn't be surprised if I were the worst 6MT driver, of all time though
lol...okay, fine a bit of an exaggeration, but I'm not far from it

but I can't drive aggressive, yet..........."aggressively" It takes way to long for me to slow down, shift gears (say I'm going up a hill), and so forth. I'm getting used to rev matching though
say from, 6th to 5th on the freeway, but I've yet to try 6th to say, 4th for spirited runs. With time...hopefully
AND there is a 335is coming out with an N54 putting out 320hp with an overboost feature allowing it to generate 7-second burst of up to 370lb-ft. (Road and Track is billing it as the M3 Lite)Good kill Brian. Stephen's had a couple of runs vs the 335i with results similar to yours (IIRC). I'll ask him for recap.

^^ He definitely doesn't have the 2011, so it's definitely the twin turbo setup. I'm gonna see if I can get a run on vid too. I'm also gonna try to get me vs my boys newly acquired 6MT 370z, and also his friends I/H/E/tune Mach1 (yikes lol).
